MaypopI know, I know, I bought more plants... how very, very shocking!Excuse tge grow light glow, this is my maypop starter, apparently they grow in my zone (I did not realize this!) I bought two, but one us in rough shape, it was larger so didn't handle the rough handling during shipment as well. The smaller one seems to be doing just fine. I'm not entirely sure where I'm going to plant it, as the trellis for my vines is sort of full, but I could set another one up. They are very vigorous, from what I've seen, once established, so it really should get its own area.I also pruned my fruit trees yesterday. I did a hard pruning on my sour cherry, she was getting CRAZY. I might need to go back and prune a little harder on some of my others.

I like sticksI got the fig cuttings I ordered and started the rooting process. I am not following the process recommended by the seller (rooting on coco coir). I mean, I get why they do it that way, they have a lot more volume. I root my cuttings in water. It takes a while, but I've never had one rot on me, and the only real fail point I've encountered is in swapping them over to soil, but usually, if I let they roots get established enough, that doesn't happen either.

Okay, my mind is kind of blown.Did anyone know that hostas are edible? Because I. Did. Not. I've got a pair in the heavily shaded part of my yard that have always half annoyed me. I'm going to try these sprouts in the spring. If I like them, I'm dividing those plants. I've already planned on revamping a rather neglected part of the yard, but it is rather shaded, so the hostas could fit right in.https://practicalselfreliance.com/edible-hostas/

Garden Planning and TappingWell, I've officially started documenting my garden plans. Of course I've now decided to expand the garden, possibly in two places. One will be another shade garden with probably a mix of flowers and edibles. I've already got wineberries growing wild over there, so no reason not to keep them and maybe add more berries. Since I now know hostas as edible, might move mine there, at the very least I'll divide them and put the divisions in that area. Also, I got supplies to tap my one maple as a (requested) Christmas present. So, I'll need to do that at the end of the month.Even though it's winter, and there is snow on the ground... spring is coming.

I'm not sure what's wrong. It's not on my list of groups anymore and it isn't even listed in a general search of groups.

Sketchbook StuffI've been sketching pretty regularly lately. Trying to do a little drawing every day, even if it's just little doodles. Obviously, not that interesting to look at, but good practice for me.This was the first one. Just did graphite at first and went in with a pen later, might still mess with it.

And Suddenly......the garden doesn't look so barren anymore. My deep shade garden is actually looking like a garden now.The main garden, it feels like it went from practically barren with just hints of life to me scratching my head already about where I'm going to fit stuff in. And yes, one of my kale plants has already dared to start bolting. I snapped the flower off and harvested a bit from my three biggest kale plants, which is my first harvest of greens for the year.
