@grammargirl more complex answer than the poll permits, I prefer the latter form, and use it in technical writing when clarity is crucial, but often say it the first way, as do many people of course, so it crops up in my vernacular writing as well. Usually the intended meaning is inferred correctly.

@mttaggart @nopatience fwiw, my feed looks a lot more like how you describe bluesky. I’m not sure you can generalize quite so readily here from feed to Platform.

@futurebird I’ve pondered making something like this for a while too, maybe with a LoRA module to sync back to home. Very cool!

@foone I’m literally in the middle of exactly this project! Pi Zero is going into an older PS/2 Keytronic.

@foone not yet, I’ve just been noodling so far, but I’m gonna try and get it done very soon. It occurred to me to include as part of a completely different project of converting that old keyboard I like into one that can connect via Bluetooth and ideally represent itself as at least 3, but maybe an arbitrary number of separate keyboards, so I can connect it to all of my (BT supporting) computers and switch between them. Adding the Pi while I’m in there anyhow just seemed logical somehow. There’s plenty of room inside for the pi and the esp32 I’m planning to use for the Bluetooth part.

@foone oh my god 10,000% same. No auto switching and no making me navigate a damn on screen menu using invisible, unlabeled buttons. Argh!

@foone pretty sure lemmings had at least a “versus” mode… that could be fun!

@futurebird I’m a lefty who writes with fountain pens, but it does mean a different grip and orientation to the paper, which I recognize is a lot to re-train as an adult. I got tired of having to cope with the spine of notebooks and the smudging and dirty hands while still quite young (middle school ish) and solved it by rotating the paper 90 degrees clockwise and writing towards myself instead of across, and still do so. This makes the relationship of the pen nib and hand essentially the same as a righty, and moves the path of the hand away from the text. Maybe more of an intervention than he’s game for or compelled to do, of course. Personally I’m perpetually upset this isn’t just how lefties are taught from the jump.

Periodic reminder for fireworks enjoyers out there that for every little jolt of pleasure you get, there are dozens if not hundreds of pets, veterans, and other people of various kinds who are getting jolts of trauma and terror. Mind your fuckin manners and try to be kind in the broadest possible way, ok? And maybe let’s just make that a mantra to apply to every situation. Love, kindness and peace y’all… Happy New Year.
