@ericbuijs have used #FairEmail for 2 years now just to keep tabs on my gmail account ( #tutanota is my primary now). Worth upgrading to the premium if you enjoy. Loads of features to get it how you like it.

Don't hold your breath for DuckDuckGo browser on Linux;"Ultimately, we’d love to support Linux as well, but we are focused on Mac and Windows for now."https://spreadprivacy.com/introducing-duckduckgo-for-mac/

@tinfoilhat Debian and Xfce make a great team, definitely my first preference.

@tinfoilhat you can have a new look every day of the week! Its a Linux desktop, being bored is just a lack of imagination ;-)

@tinfoilhat Guilty too. Think I have gone from Xubuntu, to MX Linux, Debian, Debian Testing, Debian did, and not back to Debian stable... Just this year! Debian LXQT was in there somewhere too. Treat Fosstodon like a distrohoppers anonymous group :D

@tinfoilhat Personally never got on with Timeshift, always found Deja Dup good enough. Tried LMDE too, again just prefer stock Debian Xfce with my preferred tweaks. Sid/testing just do not seem to be worth it when using Xfce. Do like the effort going into LXQT, just does not feel 'complete' yet.

Been playing with Debian testing with LXQT this week on the laptop.Looks a more modern compared to XFCE. That said, it does not feel as well finished. Some aspects like Connman (default network manager) and the way startup apps are handled are just a bit rough around the edges. That said, enjoying it overall and sticking with it for now.#debian #lxqt #linux

@anon Bingo, old hardware. The home PC is 2009 and this laptop is 2013. I will admit the difference in performance with XFCE and Plasma is not far apart these days. Just enjoy Xfce more. LXQT definitely lighter, very responsive.

@kev Qwant and Metager I have had good experiences with. Currently, trying Swisscows, but their family filter is just a bit too conservative.

@libreoffice It must be over 10 years now of using #LibreOffice. Libreoffice has been there for personal, education, and work all those years. Now my daughter also defaults to it. Always there, robust, and it has never let me down. Looking forward to many more years, and generations, relying on it.

@fatboy I have tried, and generally have always had good results. I just worry about who is hosting the instance (potentially nothing is private, info all stored, sold. etc). I tend to default to MetaGer now, but really like the potential of searx.

@safiuddinkhan LMDE 5, or was just reading about Spiral Linux today (assuming you want to keep the debian base).

Sometimes you just have to be pragmatic. I would support the move to make non-free more accessible. Debian Begins A General Resolution To Decide What To Do With Non-Free Firmware - Phoronix https://www.phoronix.com/news/Debian-Non-Free-Firmware-GR

@joel I think similar to option 3, two separate downloads. Anything would be an improvement on the current process of them providing an unofficial non-free hidden away on the website. Just a bit, under the counter, wink wink nudge nudge.

Saw a BBC News piece on the Neeva search engine today. Saying all the right things about privacy. I have noted that Neeva is an option in SeaxrNG search engine preferences too.Only hesitation with using this would be their privacy policy (https://neeva.com/privacy) saying that information may be held in the USA. USA based servers is probably my red line with search engines. At least some, like Startpage, give you an option.

@CyborgZeta Brave search was giving me poor local results. In time I am sure that will improve though.

@CyborgZeta I really do not have enough experience with it yet to compare. But I do intend on finding out.
