The data being collected is meant to enhance the appeal of Firefox as an ad platform for customers who might want to buy paid placements in Firefox Suggest. Perhaps they also consider it useful as a trial balloon to test the reaction it gets before heading further in that direction. The reaction it gets will not be good.Looks like I may finally be trying out Librewolf.

I find Firefox ESR much more relaxing to use than the version that springs new features and bugs on you randomly throughout the year.

Normal people: Gladly give google maps access to location data at all times and never think about itMe: Instinctively worry that on the rare occasions I do use google maps it's somehow identifying me and keeping track of all the locations I look at, so I sometimes look at random places I'm not really interested in just to throw off the algorithms.But most of the time I prefer osmand.

2017 and 2021 it stayed mostly stable at 190 million usersInteresting that they almost managed to stop the decline for a few years there. In 2024 after the recent string of nonsensical decisions it's down to 158 million.

It may be that no information is ever destroyed, it is only mixed and dispersed so thoroughly that retrieving it becomes impractical. The NSA would probably have a hard time figuring out which accounts I posted to Usenet from. It's surely far beyond my own abilities.

I dunno, asking questions about the nature of Tom Bombadil and why he'd be an unsuitable candidate for your jewelry delivery job seems legit; I feel like there might be a good mythological answer although I don't know what it is exactly.To me it feels less like a determined atheist teenager scouring the names and dates of the Holy Bible looking for errors in logic and arithmetic, a little more like a Christian wondering what it means that Jesus said "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"But I guess it depends who's asking the question.

The thing in that vicinity that's like AI is the concept of art. Trying to redefine it is a popular pastime. Is my pocket calculator AI? Is my pile of laundry a work of art? Frame the answer just right and your steaming pile of linear algebra might sell for a billion dollars.

That he didn't study chimpanzees instead is a rather flimsy criticism to have such prominence in your dismissal of one man's study of humanity. It could be aimed at any ancient philosopher and most modern ones. While there is much family resemblance and some insight can be gained from it, their nature is not ours. (The chimps I mean; it's conceivable that the same may apply in some way to ancient philosophers.)
