I repeatedly ask myself - are we (trans people) just the tipping-point for European/Christian countries that they will never be able to get over? Like, we'll get close... then come the book burnings, closing the Institut for SexualWissenschaft, legal restrictions and social ostracism... usually around the same time as racism and antisemitism kick-off in daylight. Is that our lot, to be 'the last straw'? The point beyond which the "normals" just have no choice but to 'Do A Fascism'? sigh.

@cemedia look I hate neoliberalism as much as anyone, but this is just spin. Yushchenko was nearly assassinated, almost certainly by Russia, Yanukovych was very unpopular and tried to get the army to put down protests against him (https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Ukraine), he embezzled and then fled to Russia. Yeah the US sucks, as does the UK, but Russia ain't a babe-in-the-woods butter-wouldn't-melt blameless victim. There is plenty of machination and wheeling-dealing to go round without letting them off.

@herhandsmyhands hi Equity LGBT committee member here. The rates offered to the actors are shockingly low: £150 ‘subject to fund raising’- BUT they are trying to raise £15,000 in crowd funding for a one night-only rehearsed read. They didn’t advertise in any reputable source, only on social. It’s a kick in the face for trans actors actually trying to survive and work so a small group of pals can get loads of attention. Please don’t encourage them.

@cloudquinn @deirdrebeth @herhandsmyhands exactly. Actors don’t work 9-5, we may only do a two hour show at 5pm BUT that show precludes us easily doing any other work or appearing in other shows. So UK average wage being £18 an hour means we get paid what £36 for what ends up being a days work (or a day blocked out so we cannot otherwise work) and that £36 a day is meant to be a great deal? Or we should work for free? The entitlement and lack of thought is breathtaking.

I keep hearing (eg John Gray – New Statesman) that ’cos liberals ‘went way beyond what “normal” people want’ – instead of meeting them where they were – we got a backlash… and it is *not true*, and they refuse to see it. ~8 years ago, in the UK, most people had no problem with trans people in washrooms & were noncommittal re sports participation. What changed was a blitzkrieg campaign to MAKE those things into battleground issues. It’s not organic.
