Every time I come across a significant ant bustling about I now notice it differently, and think about who it might be and what it’s up to. This is 100% thanks to @futurebird.So, obviously, thank you. But also just thinking about this: we change each other’s everyday lives all the time with what we know and know how to share.

A little more on the UA government donation website: you can choose where your donation goes including non-military options like rebuilding schools, land mine clearance, medical evacuation. Even just studying the site for a while is useful. For me it was the absolute nonsense about wearing a suit. He didn’t need a ride when this began, he doesn’t need a suit now. FFS, he is the most deliberate and constructive of political communicators. He’s not playing, and never was.https://u24.gov.ua/

It’s valid to point to the limits of performative protest but just hold that thought for a moment and ask: what if all these people had not shown up? The rest of the world has been changed very profoundly by recent US executive actions, and we’re not going back. We have to live differently without you at the centre. But this is building some kind of solidarity for recovering together.Stay safe friends.

Can’t shake the foreboding that those Tempest of Nitwits preferences have to go somewhere, not to mention the inexplicably resurgent One Nation. We are not at all out of the potato fields yet.

What will happen to the Greens vote in this election? What happened in Canada? Thinking about the conflicted anti offshore wind farm signs in my electorate, the wavering greenish voter being told they have to choose renewables OR whales.Greens preferences have been reliable for the ALP here. We’re still going to be a safe seat. But what if there are fewer Greens preferences to start with elsewhere? What about Gilmore? Eden Monaro?I would like this election to be over, and for us not to fuck it up utterly.

Following up the article on “Australian scientists” who have discovered we like remote work, apparently written up by a named journalist at The Farmingdale Observer. Farmingdale is a place, it’s had a local newspaper since 1963 noted by the Library of Congress. This is the actual Farmingdale Observer.https://issuu.com/antoncommunitynewspapers7/docs/1-26-22_farmingdaleobserverThe Farmingdale Observer from yesterday is a different beast. It’s a news aggregating website. This regurgitated article seems to have started life on The Conversation, the journalist doesn’t seem to exist anywhere online, the actual research was distorted, but traffic flowed trustingly from here to the website. Winning! It’s clever but also dumb content farming and this is how we learn to fall for things, over and over, harmlessly and near-enoughish, until it’s not.

I’m curious about a thing that’s appeared at the beach that I think is a rock. I feel a rock scientist will know why it has this pattern. It’s rock heavy in the hand. But it’s clay adjacent.@potterybyosa?Anyone? I’d love to know. Please boost.Location: east coast Australia just north of Wollongong.

Watching LA, watching #madleen put their life jackets on, thinking about the safety and peace that you happen to live in that is precisely shaped by threat to others who are not you, and also by their courage.

“That’s how dance feels to me, a person who can’t.” With courage showing up everywhere in this hour, there is also still the plain wrestling with self and thought and how we learn anything through the embodied lives we lead, and one way and another each step of this makes us who we are whenever we finally show up.#WordsWorthWriting from @updates https://press.invincible.ink/story-pile-just-be-free-by-big-freedia/

This is so staggeringly serious in its own right and also continues to be a compelling metaphor for AI, which is all ending up in the digital ocean, and we will never be able to get it out.https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/07/250721223827.htm

The maker culture on here is far from isolationist. What you do builds hope for others.I watch people making, repairing, drawing, sewing, crafting knives and pots and short films and solutions and community and compost heaps and seed collections, and when my day begins all those actions and ideas stay with me. Your labour of bothering to photograph it, alt text it, send updates about it, share frustrations and success, it’s just fantastic. You have no idea who’s watching and thinking: hey, maybe I could sew on a button after all.

The questions and reflections here have taken me back to de Certeau and The Practice of Everyday Life. It’s a text of its time in gender pronoun terms but it’s for our time in thinking about making and making do as the ruses, tactics and surreptitious refusals of the dominant culture that wants us only to sit open-mouthed in front of capitalism’s livestreams. So making is also the life you make, it’s your survival, the way you shelter yourself and others. It’s your refusal and your gleaning and your showing up and your asking for help. All of it is an irritant to power and profit.Keep on.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Practice_of_Everyday_Life
