General reminder: good digital self-privacy and -security practice requires nuance. The balance of convenience vs privacy and security is one that individuals have to find for themselves. By all means make recommendations, but everyone needs to find their own balance.

There's now a map of where Amazon has partnered with the cops to provide Ring access. This is useful information, so you know where not to go ;) https://www.cnet.com/news/amazons-ring-reveals-405-cities-where-police-tap-into-its-cameras/

@infosechandbook @pfigel wait can you actually move followers now and not just people you follow?

I’ve just seen a feature where apparently mastodon 3 can move followers to a new account?! (Thanks @infosechandbook)Anyone know how this works or how well it works? Very curious, and good timing bc I was thinking about a new account right now!

@infosechandbook that’s less than ideal. Surprised there’s no post import and export function! I’d guess the followers were ones from other platforms but I’m not sureThanks for the input tho! 😀

@infosechandbook yeah that sounds about right unfortunately. I also wonder if your followers continue to follow the new account if the old server disappears - ie, is it a server side redirect or is it notifying followers servers about the migration
