@web3isgreat This is yet another example of why centralization is the way of the past. Whether it's the #cryptocrash or #Twittershutdown, central points of failure have wreaked havok this month. Web3 needs to follow #Mastodon and the Fediverse's example and stay as decentralized as possible.

@atomicpoetAnother interesting Reddit fact: There were third-party apps for YEARS before there was an official app.And most of them are still better than the official app. For reasons that might surprise you. Just one example: if you download the newest version of the DuckDuckGo browser app for Android, it has a beta feature that will block attempts by apps to send data to a list of third-party tracking companies. So far it has blocked 22,416 attempts to send my unique identifier, city, zip code, country, email, IP address, device brand and model, OS version, screen density and resolution, and more to Branch Metrics by the official app. And that number has gone up by 2000 in the time it has taken to type this paragraph. I've only had blocking turned on for a few hours. So far my Reddit is Fun app has not tried to track me once. For comparison, the most times any other app has tried to track me is 185, from the Fandango app. Most apps, if they track at all, are in the single digits.

@leo this just proves that TWiT does journalism dangerous enough to need to be censored. It's a badge of honor! So far, three of my tweets have gotten sensitive content warnings put on them. Well, they weren't actually tweets, they were just things that automatically got retweet Ed when I boosted posts on Mastodon, because I linked my accounts using the Mastodon Twitter Crossposter at https://crossposter.masto.donte.com.br At some point, I should probably stop giving Twitter the free content, but collecting content warnings is fun!

@shaman He has expanded the earlier rule change to disallow tracking of all flying vehicles, not just his jet.

@stux @PaulaToThePeople Third is earth, supposedly coming in 2025. I have the highest hope that they will lean hard into the Lake LaoGai vibe and do a Cold War Era, East Earth Empire vs West Earth Empire plot. Earthbenders have split the atom. The Avatar is born in East Earth Empire and defects to the West, where they find racial strife and anti-Eastern paranoia. Wacky hijinks ensue.

@jaredwhite @atomicpoet This time 1000. The rest of the #Fediverse is not ready for the kind or amount of users the #twittermigration has brought #Mastodon. And the "but the Fediverse" talk misses the point. The world needs a #Twitter replacement. Twitter could go down in the next few months from bankruptcy or attacks. Devs need to focus their efforts on improving Mastodon's UX and stability.(Case in point: this is the 2nd time I've typed this. I got this far in Tusky and it crashed, just like it and the Mastodon app and website do 70% of the time my posts get longer than 500 characters.)The horde of refugees that crashed servers and needed to be taught Mastodon fediquette in November-December will seem like a ripple compared to the wave of noobs Mastodon will get if Twitter goes down for real. They won't need 15 microblogging platforms, 8 image hosters, 6 macrobloggers, 3 video sites, 2 book catalogs, and a new Reddit. They will need Mastodon. Let's get it ready for them.

@simon I am greatly looking forward to seeing the code that an LLM writes for an LLM that runs on a Commodore 64. I think at the very least, a C64 LLM could be capable of writing optimized prompts for other, better LLMs to execute.I have been working on crafting prompts for the past few months because a) it is fun to think in token-ese and to figure out how to make Stable Diffusion create weird things that aren't in its training data and b) I thought writers and artists will need to become good prompt engineers to have any hope of a career 2 or 3 years from now. Then I saw the prompts that GPT-3 can write for Stable Diffusion and realized that Prompt Engineering, if it even becomes a useful job skill, will only be so for another few months before employers realize that AIs are better than humans at it.I still enjoy writing prompts that create neon colored synthwave-style robotic velociraptors posing in front of nuclear explosions, but I know that an AI could write a better one than me.
