       Starting a new Facebook account to use Marketplace with a variant on my name and not friending anyone from it has produced some wild friend recommendations, including neighbors from when I was a kid (across the country from where I currently live), my grandma’s backup account, and my 11th grade art teacher. Goes to show what tracking pixels and contact data graphing are really good for, I guess :/

       The most interesting thing to me is how such tracking exposes the web of once-and-possibly-future connections between people which are already there but otherwise not necessarily visible.

       Real-name policies are exclusionary of people who change their names personally but not professionally or use different last name variants based on context (what if you formally hyphenate and don’t do that day to day, or have two last names legally because you got one from each parent?!), and people who change countries and need to spell their last name using a different alphabet (Chinese or Japanese to English, English to Thai, whatever) so as to work with administrative systems that only accept the local character set. https://peoplemaking.games/@eniko/111217385971291927
