I'm currently studying advanced French. Years ago, when I started to learn serious English, one of the tricks that worked best for me was to read books written in English, which now I do regularly. It was hard at the beginning, but I got progressively better at it, and now it feels totally natural. Of course, I haven't read a translation from English to Spanish ever since. (Spanish is my mother tongue.)I tried doing the same with French. But it's very difficult for me to find books and authors I like, and my French level is not so very good in any case. So I decided to start reading French translations to English-written books that I had already read and loved. It's not ideal, but it works for me (because when I get lost, I go back to the original version, check the parts I'm not getting, and get back on track). Therefore, right now I'm reading Lois McMaster Bujold's Barrayar. There is no reason to suffer while learning.

Sometimes I vaguely wonder why I don't get more new followers. I don't like the concept "followers" but there's no better term I guess? Not that I want to have hundreds or thousands of them, that feels scary. What I mean is people to interact with, people who know me? Can we say friends without sounding ridiculous? Probably not. I was thinking about it while slowly drinking my coffee some moments ago, and just realized that all I do on mastodon is reading, favoriting, replying and retooting. All the people I follow (again that word) say or generally post something somewhat original from time to time, or all the time. (Also shorter than this, but as I stated, I'm a talkative person.
