Well this makes me happy that I started my own online cookbook partially as a joke, I should probably start putting more stuff on it. https://jacobwsmith.xyz/cookbook/index.html

@hobbit.habit It does, along with adds, but he disabled that feature for this video to show how bad the bloat is for people who aren't smart enough to use a good browser or add blocker.

I'm glad you finally made this video, everyone who thinks gemini is so great is guilty of consooming way too much Linux content while failing to actually apply it to the real world. Why anyone would make a public website that people have to do extra work to access is completely beyond me. Gemini enthusiasts are just as bad as soydev web developers who fill pages with bloat, no rational person would make the internet harder to access. Hopefully you've succeeded in knocking some sense into them.

@macoy_abz You realize that you're talking to a man who is against the idea of social media and rarely takes his phone out of the house right? TickTok and anything that even slightly resembles it is incredibly cringe.

I've made the decision not to care about search engine optimization on my website, I know that my site will never really be put in front of other sites so why bother? Search engine optimization basically boils down to writing for a machine rather than a real person, nobody wants to read stuff written for a machine and I don't want to write for one. All search engines are these days are [confirmation bias generators](https://jacobwsmith.xyz/stories/confirmation_bias.html) and people who want to make quality websites should just [ignore them.](https://jacobwsmith.xyz/stories/seo.html)

@zhoreeq@mstdn.netwhood.online no, the point Luke is making here is that normies need to have the easiest thing possible to get their updates and there is nothing easier than getting some sort of pseudo-app on their phone and it is already something they are used to doing. It is quite common these days to be browsing the internet on your phone and getting a pop up or something that asks if you want to download an app or web app for a better experience or something. If something like Luke is describing existed than those of us with our own websites could do the same thing with a few lines of JavaScript. The way we get normies is to meet them where they are at and have them do things the way they always have done them. Things like ActivityPub and RSS in its current form will never catch on for the same reason that the year of the Linux desktop will never happen, normies take the path of least resistance in technology.

@literally.hitler Luke is talking about targeting normies who can't be bothered to learn how to do that, you're not a normie this video doesn't apply to you.

I saw a lot of people in these comments talking about how ActivityPub could be used as a solution to this problem but I think Luke's suggestion is a much better idea than that. The whole point of this is to get normies to use it and they clearly aren't or Luke wouldn't be having this problem since he is already here on PeerTube so it's not a good solution. It is important not to let our excitement for a technology cloud our judgement of reality. I wrote more about it here:https://jacobwsmith.xyz/stories/activitypub.html

@mattock@poa.st I disagree, sure you may have a job where you have to work from home or collaborate with people across the world but that isn’t where we are designed to find fulfillment. We should gain the most happiness from our families and our real life friends that we actually do stuff with. Go to church, get married, have kids these are the things that make us happy and they can be done completely independent of the internet, in fact it is better to do those things without the internet. Don’t black pill yourself learn to interact with real people and to ignore the sheep being led to the pit of despair.
