@plambrechtsen @aurynn @idanoo @billbennett Lots of reasons - running a VC instance for example works much better running on the NZ Access network NZ than going to any of the cloud provided video bridge including their in country CDN systems

@plambrechtsen @aurynn @idanoo @billbennett Long lived instances of things are a much harder / complicated proposition, but going to the cloud for some of those is just as if not more problematic.I guess going back to mastodon - I probably wouldn't run one off my residential edge compute. But conversely there are a heap of functions we have punted to providers which we should not be and could easily be running as temporary things on our home networks. Incentives are to not design for that.

@adam feh, kubes is following pretty much same path as stack. It's a hype cycle/interest thing that results in technical complexity and throwing the kitchen sink -

Launching stuff for Nasa with rockets and launchpads in New Zealand. It's a thing, and pretty wild when considered
