The Ukrainian cyberdefense agency — the SSSCIP — is delivering a briefing this morning on the state of the Russian cyber campaign against Ukraine.The big takeaway is that Russia is increasing cyber operations against Ukraine, but the severity of those attacks has declined significantly.

Kyiv attributes this shift to their improved cyber defenses, but also to shifting Russian priorities — Russian hackers are, less and less, trying to take systems offline and, more and more, trying to collect information. That could be intel on prosecutions (particularly of other cyber criminals) or collecting information to dump online.

There is a threat that Russian efforts — both kinetic and cyber — could ramp up against energy and critical infrastructure in the months to come. Moscow will likely trying to replicate its efforts from last year to plunge Ukraine into darkness. But the SSSCIP is now responsible for critical infrastructure protection, and says they've learned a lot over the past year.

Since leaving Twitter, I've been trying to figure out what my journalism-y socials look like. (Threads: A sad Potemkin village where I just share articles. Bluesky: A fun, bitchy hotel cafeteria that still seems ill-suited to news.) I've been trying to use Mastodon for more hard news stuff, but I'm having a hard time getting my feed to be both active and relevant.So I'm trying a few experiments to see if I can rejig my good. Ok, that was many more replies than I was expecting! The one consistent recommendation was: Use hashtags. As much as I despise hashtagging (I hated it on Twitter, too) I'll give it more of a go.I'm still going through some other follow suggestions.
