BELGIUM REACHED THE THRESHOLD! We now have 5 out of 7 necessary country thresholds passed. Who will be next? Slovenia (69%), The Netherlands (68%), Sweden (44%), Germany (41%) or Denmark (40%)? National pride is probably one the least effective arguments to the target group of this initiative, but also, France is currently at 250%, and you're not going to let a bunch of baguette-eating frogs show you up, are you? 450,000! Amazing progress on the Citizens’ Initiative to ban conversion therapy. We’re just a few hundred names away from the 6th country threshold out of 7 required. Do you know a Dutch person you could convince to sign this? Are you a Dutch person who hasn’t signed yet? Go here: https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home/allcountries

They did it! The Netherlands just passed the threshold. Can we get another country tomorrow? Slovenia is next in line!

@AnneFrandiCoory @QasimRashid That has everything to do with Israel, and not much to do with other Jewish people around the world. Begone with that antisemitic BS.

Across continents and millennia, what truly unites humanity is our need to be left the fuck alone at home. From “The shortest history of China” by Linda Jaivin.

The fascist hatred for pedestrians and cyclists really ought to be studied: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2025-09-25/bologna-s-citta-30-safety-policy-draws-fire-from-italy-s-government

Salvini said, in particular: “ I have a duty to protect the mobility of those who drive to work.” This is a recurring theme: people who work drive, people who drive work; the idea that many, many, many walk or cycle to work is silly; cycling is a hobby, something you do in the weekend for exercise or to take your children to the park.

They link cycling to leisure, driving to work, and suddenly supporting cyclist and pedestrians makes you side with economic downturns. It’s a pretty simple rhetoric shortcut that fascists use over and over again.

My thoughts on social media bans everywhere is that if you're taking digital connections away from teens, you better make sure they have third spaces for physical connection, and give them options for transport that is not "parents drive us around" otherwise all you're creating is isolation. And you may not need a social media ban if you start by preserving and creating those third spaces. #SocialMedia

@Nonilex My child went through the Danish system. We walked out of the maternity ward with a pamphlet outlining the national vaccination programme. We received messages one month before every time a vaccine was due, strong recommendation at every doctor visit and our GP looked genuinely confused when we asked her about anyone not vaccinating their kids. This feels completely different from what the US gov is going for.

There's something remarkable about this photo illustrating the article in Le Monde about the snow fall in France:The roads are cleared of snow. The sidewalks and bike lanes are not.Yet, I count 13 pedestrians and one cyclist. The only car can barely be seen in the background.Anecdotes are not data. But over and over, local governments make choices about who is prioritised for access, and it does not often line up to actual numbers of users.Read the article here:https://www.lemonde.fr/climat/live/2026/01/07/en-direct-neige-et-verglas-la-circulation-des-trains-est-fortement-perturbee-sur-les-lignes-orleans-nantes-et-tours-angers-selon-la-sncf_6660746_3244.html
