#introduction Hi, I'm Julian! I'm a software developer and writer who's spent most of his life on the Canadian prairies (SK and MB, specifically).I've spent the last sixteen years after dropping out of my PhD program working as a software developer. In the evenings I play classical guitar and viola, neglect my flute and French horn. I write poetry! I have a chapbook out ("Late Summer Flowers", Anstruther Press)! I run when it's warmer. I'm not very fast. Pleased to meet you. :)

Looking to get off Twitter. The one thing really keeping me there is the larger community of poets, who are inventive and fascinating but also incredibly resistant to change. So if you're on Mastodon, and a poet, and I don't follow you, hit me up so I can change that.

Apropos uhhhh nothing but one of the things I appreciate with Mastodon is the temporary mute function. "shut up but just for a bit".

I'd like to be snarky about this, but it's sad to watch #Twitter's slow death. That stupid, beautiful site has been vital to me in my development as a poet. And as someone who can probably be described as Very Online, I used to find the site good in a bunch of other ways as well. But at some point, you have to go. He's deleting old tweets to save a bit of money on storage space. And meanwhile, all the tweets on the Arab Spring, the Mumbai attacks, etc, are gone. They're just...gone.

The last few weeks I've spent doing anything but poetry - working on my game, composing music (!), excruciatingly practicing certain bowing techniques to try to get a looser and more natural tone. So of course this morning as I'm cleaning the stove in preparation for company coming, a poem comes fully formed, the first thing I've written in weeks.

123guestbook is shutting down in a few months - wondering what to switch to. Any of you still maintain a presence on the #smallweb/#indieweb? What do you use for a #guestbook ?

@aral Mozilla's been running on the fumes of what it was in the 00s, combined with a whole lot of what-else-have-we-got.

@monarchist Have a bunch of others, but only one of them is for books, and it's almost full. We're planning on another 3-4 for my office, and that should keep us for...a few years? Maybe. Yeah.
