As a direct descendant of Erik the Red, who founded the earliest Norse settlements in Greenland with settlers from Iceland following his banishment from Norway, I question the historical and legal basis of Denmark’s claim to sovereignty over Greenland. From this perspective, it may be argued that the Greenlandic people themselves constitute the primary and legitimate holders of territorial sovereignty over Greenland.
