@Migueldeicaza I had to look it up to find out that He = Nixon."Agnew was the Joey Buttafuoco of the Nixon administration, and Hoover was its Caligula. They were brutal, brain-damaged degenerates worse than any hit man out of The Godfather, yet they were the men Richard Nixon trusted most. Together they defined his Presidency."

@Migueldeicaza I think it actually is, but when we introduce our kids to things we love we set very high expectations.

This article from 2014 -- Mapping the decentralization movement -- showed up in my WordPress stats recently. I'd forgotten all about it! I love the fact that Pinboard has preserved all the links I curated on the #redecentralize tag. See also #fediverse tag there: lots of stuff.https://blog.jonudell.net/2014/06/11/mapping-the-decentralization-movement/

"If you occupy a privileged position in the attention economy, as Megan McArdle does now, and as I once did in a more limited way, then no, you won’t see Mastodon as a viable replacement for Twitter."https://blog.jonudell.net/2023/01/19/of-course-the-attention-economy-is-threatened-by-the-fediverse/#AttentionEconomy #Fediverse

@atomicpoet @reiver Hey Chris, I guess I'll find out soon enough but meanwhile, do you think this service would work for friends-and-family networking? I'm not talking about a medical-and-financial-records level of privacy, more like a we-can-share-pics-of-grandkids level :-)I've wanted for a long time to get friends-and-family stuff out of FB/Insta/etc and into something like ... well, maybe something like this.

"All you crazy MFs are completely overlooking the fact that **software engineering exists as a discipline because you cannot EVER under any circumstances TRUST CODE.** That’s why we have *reviewers*. And *linters*. And *debuggers*. And *unit tests*. And *integration tests*."On this piece of Steve Yegge's manifesto on AI-assisted coding: *quis custodiet ipsos custodes: *Who watches the watchers? @grvsmth I would strongly recommend reading @simon on this topic. He's taking a fair amount of heat for it, but in my book he's doing a great job of discovering and applying (and explaining!) the elements of this tech that can deliver legit productivity improvement.

"After pouring through the code, multiple people found at least one really interesting portion of the code that shows Twitter is specifically tracking metrics for users broken up into four different groups"https://mashable.com/article/twitter-releases-algorithm-showing-it-tracks-elon-musk-tweetsAmidst this insanity I don't know why I care about the vanishing distinction between "pouring" and "poring" but I do.

This relationship graph maps the servers in my recent home timeline. The arrows mean that someone on the origin server boosted someone on the target server. I think it's a good way to answer the question: "Is it really possible to interact effectively across a network of diverse Mastodon servers?"#fediverse #visualization
