Seriously, there is a whole history behind how shareholder democracy took on its present form. A big part of it that corporations, large institutional shareholders, legislators, and regulators all took a look at small-investor activism, and the only thing they didn't see eye-to-eye on was who would get to give the Ned Beatty speech.
