Work in Progress for today’s art. Here’s a thread of a graphite portrait! Will add as replies… Rather than spending an hour sketching or doing a foundation, only to find errors later, I print out the image and graphite trace it onto my paper, which is taped to a cardboard. Then, constantly checking the reference photo on my tablet, I do preliminary shading with a .3 mm 2H lead mechanical pencil, and wipe with a cotton ball. This establishes a base layer. #art #WIP #portrait #drawing

Second layer done, a 2 mm F lead clutch pencil (a type of mechanical pencil) I use for shadow mapping the image - minor effort to distinguish tones within shadows at this point, just building layers AND smudged again with the used cotton ball - this adds tone to the whole page, allowing for highlights to be picked out with an eraser later. #WIP

Had to block a guy who posts nice bird/nature pix. He made a weird comment about political correctness vis a vis a common innocuous animal descriptor and then wrote the classic dog whistle "erase our history" ... I gave him a direct nudge to explain himself ("whose history exactly would be erased?") and he doubled down on the dog whistle. Bye bye.

Today’s art - work in progress at the drawing desk. Using a Uni 2 mm red lead clutch pencil and General “white charcoal” (chalk) pencil on Strathmore gray paper. Slightly hampered by not being able to find my Uni 2 mm lead sharpener, necessitating a quick Jet Pens order, which led me to discover Uni is making a .28 mm oil based ballpoint so I had to order in black ink and in blue ink, but hey the larger order qualified for free shipping. #ArtLife #art #WorkInProgress #ArtSupplies
