@grammargirl I'm curious, why did you hate that book? I saw a lot of that book was a critique on modern internet culture, and I keep thinking about those parts too

@grammargirl haha yes, i was just describing this book to a friend and thinking the same thingall the of characters were pretty narcissistic and unlikable. but it seems to have perfect skewered and foresaw the cultural forces at work today. the author understood something about how the internet was impacting our lives in a way the rest of us missedi guess reading it involves getting over the hump of how awful the characters are. kind of want to re-read it now. too bad i can't just watch it in movie form 😅

@grammargirl sorry, and one other thing, tangentially related.the number of people i run into today who casually drop they don't read books, and they don't see any problem with that. i think this comes up more with my american friends but it makes me wistful. sort of like when you meet someone without a sense of taste and you wonder how they experience food. reading adds such a layer to thought and experience, i find it challenging to imagine how that feels

@grammargirl exactly. you've captured it, there is no stigma to it. i don't want to come off as some reading snob, i've very lucky i was raised in a family that valued reading so much. i guess i just want others to experience books. books let you imagine other places and ways of living, it makes you dream of other possibilities. and books are fantastic escapism

@strypey Huh, I haven't heard this before. Is it just slow to load, or interacting with it?

@futurebird It made me think of Elysium, like someone watched that and have a fever dream about beautiful healthcare provided by a private/public partnership
