Shocked and amazed that the four hour main arm piece I was #3DPrinting worked the very first time I printed it. Two print-in-place rotating hub sections and a thin rotating lifting arm printed right on top all nice and happy-happy.Still have to remove supports on the mirrored one, but finishing my #FreeCAD tweaks for the crossbar part first.Of course I'll have to wait and see how strong the final assembled contraption is, but it does look in the ballpark.

@NanoRaptor lines up with my realization long ago that Civilization is only twenty-something years old.We hope to pass progress forwards, but the young do have to learn much for themselves before they can pick up the torch. What can be learned and *understood* in that much time is what our world has to function with.

My 20-something's laptop goes almost complelty untouched in favor of his phone.People who don't account for changes in information consumption are just dinosaurs

@foone a while back we got a smart TV, as it was the only affordable one in the size we needed. I refused to give it any form of access, and only used external devices & dongles with it.A year later Samsung responded to a factory robbery of that model of TV by remotely bricking all the stolen TVs.My wife originally had thought me vigilant rather than paranoid, but after Samsung took action she downgraded me to just normally cautious.

@lightweight at least it wasn't as "comsistent" as the HP desktops we had at work in the early aughts. IT came to me about 11 months after I started and asked if I had everything checked in or backed up since my machine was coming up on a year. Sure thing, about a month later dmsg started showing sectors starting to fail.

@lightweight as a side effect it made a great test environment for linux vs windows gaming. No coincidence that me and my linux friends on the team consistently dominated in our lunchtime "network load testing"
