@aral lots of posts recently blaming individual corporations for high prices, price gouging, corporate greed, etc...I hope you don't consider it "defending corporations" to point out how useless it is to blame each player in a game that is deeply flawed. We built a highway with no speed limit and then got upset that drivers went to fast? Ask the government to set some rules. Unregulated capitalism is destroying our planet.

@tante Can't say I agree with him being included in this characterization. He's a 75 year old career academic researcher who had worked with Google for 10 years, now retiring and not selling any new book... in fact much of his research was published openly and deliberately not patented. Not his fault that governments declined to regulate products derived from the concepts he explained to us for forty some years.

@rchusid @GGMcBG As a Jewish guy I feel the label of nazi is entirely deserved for people who advocate for the extermination of a group of people. Twitter is owned by such a guy. Participating in his business is akin to patronizing a nazi bar. This isn't hyperbole throwing around the label. If you're wondering how you would have behaved in the late 1930's, you're doing it right now.

I have known for a while that I’d be living through some sort of climate apocalypse but I had no idea it would begin this soon. 11x the normal amount of forest fires in Canada?Extreme life-threatening heatwaves in June? The longer we cling to status quo in this climate emergency, the worse it will get for all of us.

@luckytran Service industry: no one wants to work, we can't find enough employees!Also service industry: we need to pretend to our customers that it is safe to dine here, so you must get sick every few months and possibly permanently disabled to keep appearances up that the pandemic is over.

@dalias @craignicol @thatprivacyguy it’s actually pretty weird we let advertising get so pervasive. They are exploiting our biology to make us thing we want to buy their products. That’s… brainwashing? Some like to call it marketing. We chose not to let cigarette companies advertise for obvious reasons - why do we let car companies advertise machines that cause environmental destruction and death? Etc etc etc?

As someone who has supported Greta Thunberg for years as a champion of progressive action on climate change, I am profoundly disappointed that she would choose to express solidarity with Hamas. She seems to think they deserve support as a resistance to oppression - can she not see the terrorist organization who kill fleeing civilians, who use human shields, who hoard fuel away from hospitals, who want to complete a genocide of Jews. Solidarity with Palestinians cannot involve Hamas. Shame.
