For some reason I'm proud of myself that I've started consistently shutting down the computer by clicking the shutdown icon instead of switching to the terminal and typing "sudo shutdown -h now".

@iank Despite the fact that I feel like I spend 50% of my life shaving yaks, I still have so many bad habits/routines like this. Freedom -1, the freedom to be extremely inefficient?

I'm learning too late that I could've stacked the Pacific Northwest Pen Show this weekend (https://pnwpenshow.com/) and #FOSSY (https://2023.fossy.us) afterward to make for a doubly awesome week in Portland. Only FOSSY this year, but next year, hopefully both!#fountainpens

Awesome to hear at #FOSSY about @outreachy "grandmentees" -- mentee whose mentor was a mentee of a mentor

I really wish the New York Times would cover the new Barbie movie just a little bit more.

Does Wired not read the Internet? (Or the Open Source Definition) https://www.wired.com/story/metas-open-source-llama-upsets-the-ai-horse-race/Cc: @webmink @ed

@webmink @kharijohnson @osi @ed I'm too quick to snark, but my frustration comes from this being a recurring thing -- editors never fully corrected https://www.wired.com/story/ofrak-iot-reverse-engineering-tool/either.

What would the world look like if companies had to continue following the ToS version in existence at the time your data was generated? So every new ToS version would only apply to data generated from that point on?

@joeyh I think it isn't the case because the ToS say you agree they can be changed at any time. So part of this thought experiment would be that such clauses are not allowed. The result of the thought experiment could be that ToSes would be even worse, since they would have even more incentive to be as broad as possible at the start.

Proud today to be a #Debian Developer, even just as a minor contributor on the keyring team. I don't agree with every decision the project makes, but I agree with participating in a project that makes democratic decisions toward the goal of user freedom and by the way is technically excellent. I believe it has made and will continue to make the world a better place, and that there will be many internal and external challenges along the way.

@kyle We have a winner. Yes, and I even thought about that, but I was like "but it wasn't a *single* Americano.." Making things too complicated since 1976.

This is still exciting in ways, but please don't use a CC NC license for anything in this project, especially not the firmware code: https://www.crowdsupply.com/open-tools/open-printer (also if using a CC NC license please don't list that under a subheading "Open Source"). In fact I think this must be an error, since @crowdsupply does not allow NC, does it? "User: The user alone has the right to decide to whom and for what compensation to transfer the product."
