@asociologist @older Reading this, Australian scones are much more like American biscuits. Usually round, no eggs, often savory.

If we ever achieve the 4-day week, I won't have any trouble keeping my output up. I'll save that much time by not having to write and talk about why we need a 4-day week.

The way ABS reports its monthly inflation measure (relative to a year ago) is thoroughly. It should be possible to back out a moving quarterly rate. My rough estimate is 1.0 per cent, which implies an annualised rate of 4%, low enough for me. Time to stop raising rates

@maritkragt Only as regards research. And as part of the social adjustment to 4DW, we should probably rethink how much of our research really matters.

Got into a silly fight on the birdsite, where I'm still crossposting. Lesson* Don't make a technical point and a policy proposal in the same tweet. People who disagree on policy will fight on technicalities.

Until a year or so ago, I would have said I was a longtermist (zero discounting of later-born generations) and worried about existential risk (mostly nuclear war and catastrophic climate change). Now I have been defined out of both categories by a bunch of crypto bros.

Looking at Turnbull's second ministry, which held office only five years ago, only a handful (mostly the weakest) are left on the Opposition front bench. Same would be true in NSW, I think. Not sure what to make of this. #auspol #nswpol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Turnbull_ministry
