@lauren Yep. I avoid conversations about Covid and masks because I know that my view won’t be palatable. (Such view being: if you’re expecting all of humanity to wear a mask for the rest of time I fear you’ll be disappointed.)So rather than this becoming a place where you can have a genuine conversation, it’s become a place where I watch the extreme ‘left’ view float by and because I’m a bit more in the ‘centre’ I don’t engage. I know it won’t end well.

Product release! It’s the Johnny.Decimal Workbook: ‘a guide to setting up a single-project system and working the Decimal way.’In this step-by-step workbook, I’ll take you through the entire process of how I set up my Johnny.Decimal project systems.Usually US$99, the ‘First Edition’ price is currently just US$35 with discount code MASTODON-FIRSTEDITION. That's a couple of dollars less than the discount code on the site: the absolute cheapest it'll ever be.https://jdcm.al/14.02/

That was exhausting! 🤪I decided to write this just a couple of weeks ago. I thought it'd be 24 pages – it's almost 70, and there'll be more to come. We're going on holiday on Thursday and still have a bunch to prep so it had to get finished today. It's been hundreds of hours of work for me and Lucy over the last few weeks.Right. Time for a beer.

@hyde @ellane Hey, sorry, catching up after a long holiday!Appreciate the shout-outs and glad you like the workbook. The holiday has given us some good ideas for the second half. Can’t wait to get home and finish it, we’re in Singapore airport on our way back. 🙂

@nilesh True story: my Irish mate Paddy got so drunk one night, he forgot what happened. He’s an Android user. So he just opened his Google account and it told him exactly, minute-by-minute, where he’d been.He had _not_ been using Google Maps all night.

Device naming recommendation: the chemical elements.Example: the new Mac mini is 'curium'.Use its atomic number in your IP addressing scheme: 10.x.x.[number] for the Wi-Fi interface, 10.x.x.[number + 100] for Ethernet. So curium gets 10.x.x.[96|196].Easy to remember. Hundreds to choose from. I've been doing this for years and it's 💯👌🏼Bonus: you remember more elements and their numbers. 🧠

@pgv Anything that helps you search faster is a good thing — but yeah, with JD I’m mostly searching for one thing, which is the JD ID.But if these tools help you find items with the ID that are scattered around your system and they help you do that faster, that’s great.I’m a Mac user so I use Spotlight’s index, usually via Alfred.

@pgv It’s just quicker when you know the number. My canonical example is my timesheet. 14.11. So I can either:1. Switch to Finder.2. Open a new Finder window.3. Click folder 10-19.4. Click folder 14.5. Click folder 14.11.5. Double-click file 14.11 Timesheets.xls.-or-1. Activate Alfred.2. Type 14.11.3. Press Return. So I’m not searching as in I-don’t-know-where-it-is. I’m using my OS’ search index as a launcher.

@mms @jbaty The more I rely on wifi the more I hate it and wish for a house snaked with cables.I’d do it but Lucy would leave me.

@john @amonduin @stroughtonsmith My partner — a normie — uses Procreate heavily. And boy the hoops I see her jump through to get files off the thing. Occasionally I go to step in and say, “you know there might be a better…”, and she tells me to go away. She’s figured out a way. It works. It’s a senseless mess, but it works. This should not be the experience.

Looks like it's finally happened. The website for ResophNotes, a long-unsupported Windows version of nvAlt (as in, similar functionality; it wasn't a clone), has been down for a month. This thing was simple but it was *fast*. I used it heavily at a job in 2014, all day, every day.RIP, Resoph. And RIP nvAlt! Seriously. Just bring it back, this nvUltra thing is ... yeah. I won't be unkind. But, oof.http://www.resoph.com/ResophNotes/Welcome.html
