Cool feature of https://hypothes.is is how the JS snippet looks at the page's canonical meta tag so the page notes and discussions follow along even if you host the page on different domains - for instance when hosting the site on IPFS or a Hyperdrive too.

@EU_Commission Please be absolutely precise in what you understand under "tech companies", also provide some form of evidence about the claim that "skills and tech to detect abuse" somehow already is there or can be introduced and maintained by anyone running any server where individuals can exchange information. The intention is obviously good, but the proposal so naive and far reaching, I can only oppose because it could fundamentally destroy the Internet as we know it.

@edendestroyer @edk Eugen wrote about quote messaging in full extend in the "design decision" chapter of this blog post: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2018/07/cage-the-mastodon/ I personalty fully agree with Eugen's thinking there.Yet, if we had quoted posts, then it should only be used in the context when a person (a follower) reacting to a long post could pick out a phrase to reply to the original author on that specific piece of content.QT with consent would be the only way, so it won't appear until the OP agrees.

@edk @edendestroyer I've did a quick search on the Mastodon open-source project on Github and there are multiple "issues" created on this. Perhaps there is one to add our voice to? @killyourfm And this solves the challenge with streaming music collections: our kids cannot discover it without a screen or user account. To discover what the music was their parents and family loved and danced to. I have very fond memories going through my parent's record collection as a kid and I was thrilled to inherit part of my uncle's vinyl. Being able to hand over something personal and physical like that to the next generation cannot be done through the Web.
