So often, I'm reminded about the broken state of IT today. Barriers to entry everywhere are ridiculously high.Self-hosting anything is incredibly stressful, often requiring you to be skilled as a system administrator to the point where you could make a living off of it.I know why, of course.Capitalism rewards enclosure. Money flows to companies who want customers on their terms, so solutions are designed to service thousands of people and for professionals to operate.We need #SmallTech.

I say this as a professional software developer with years of experience.It shouldn't be this hard. We should fund people who build software for people - not cancerous VC-funded companies who want to conquer the world.

All the people criticizing competing decentralized protocols owe it to the #ActivityPub-community to work *hard* on making the spec implementable in a straightforward and incremental way."Build for ActivityPub or you're harming us all" is unreasonable for anyone to say given the ambiguity of the spec and the effort required to implement it in its current form.#FediDevs

@coffeepine Dane here, and let me tell you, we absolutely have capitalism. All of our public services have been gutted by liberals and conservatives and social democrats have swung so far right they're unrecognizable.Our health care system is in shambles. Cancer patients die from fungal infections (11 yo just today), new mothers get yeeted from the hospital after 4 hours, even in the night, many people sign private health insurances.->

@coffeepine The elderly in nursing homes have to choose between fresh air and showers using a credit system. In-home care is even worse and people sit for weeks in their own filth.Daycare and kindergarten is so poorly staffed, that kids are sometimes forgotten, let alone not thriving.Schools are so run-down that many are functionally illiterate by the time they leave elementary school.->

@coffeepine If you're sick and unemployed they'll hound you for your benefits quite literally until you're dead - there were stories of terminally ill people being transported to mandatory meetings in hospital beds in order to not lose their only source of income until they died.So yeah, it used to work until fucking Reganites and Thatcherites fucked us all over. Fuck.

I want to learn more about the details of OpenID Connect and OAuth and am thinking of doing it by building my own identity provider, client libraries and relying party middleware.Has anyone here done something similar before? Is the scope of the task unrealistically large and I'll burn out before getting anywhere? Or is it a good way to get familiar with the details? I know it's not a weekend project, and I don't mind. I see it (also) as a career move worthy of investment.#OIDC #OAuth

I've lost 6 kg of body weight over the same number of months through my parental leave and starting my kid up in daycare. I'm the most stressed and poorest physical shape I've been since the same period in my eldest kids life.Kids are wonderful and rewarding, but I can fully understand if others don't want to go through it. I remember when I first encountered the crowd around @RuthMalan, @trondhjort, @matthewskelton and others with their focus on the "sociotechnical" nature of architecture.I thought "sure, Conway's law and all that", but I somehow still thought of myself in my role as solution architect primarily as a technical expert.I was *soooo* wrong!I still believe a solid technical foundation is valuable, but my role is that of facilitator and my most useful skills are all "soft skills".

It may be due to me working out of a centralized architecture function - I simply cannot be the expert on the systems involved in a solution, and I won't be the one doing the bulk of the implementation work.My technical expertise can provide inspiration, but the most effective way for me to work is to make the actual technical experts - the people deep in the code - come together and help them figure out the way while keeping the broader technical landscape and strategy in mind.

@aral works quite well on PC too. Steam has it, though I don't know how well it runs on other OS's than Windows.
