[matrix] was fine years ago but between element et al's insistence on reinventing all their apps every 2 years and their work to appease government customers to the detriment of the protocol as a whole it has become a cluster. Recently they went ahead with a change that broke mention notifications for all Element Android users despite "Element X" still being half-baked

I should really write more projects in something other than bash but most "real" languages feel like a slog. Go and PHP are fine but it is especially hard to find good examples of doing things with Go without pulling in some bloated dependency that you have to manage forever
