@sirThat's very interesting information. It's common to see those companies being referenced as big innovators, but sometimes I think they are just doing sneaky moves and buying the correct companies and people.Sad that everyone sees Google as "the technology place".

@jwildeboerSometimes I think we just need to better advertise the existence of tools.Take the hosted kubernetes stuff: you can self-host it all, but almost nobody does, so in the end everybody pays the expensive cloud providers for it.Maybe the project Gaia-X would help here, but who knows...

@catgirl The biggest issue I see with the websites is that they think only showing ads from 3rd party works. They don't care to really grab ads or sign contract with companies and provide ads for them (think like printed paper versions, they were doing exactly this).TL,DR: I agree with you.

@jwildeboerThat is indeed sad.But also, I put the blame of this mostly on Apple and Google, as they cannot agree on a damn standard to develop applications for their mobile OSs, so they pushed all the shit to browsers, so they act as a middle layer.Progressive Web Applications is the end result of this dispute and mostly why we have so many web-APIs.Who needs the damn webGL stuff after all?

@jwildeboerI'm in Berlin and personally I find it quite bad (at least for a married man that looks for a more family-oriented environment).Streets are usually dirty, train stations smell like pee, there is a lot of broken glass everywhere and finally there is this horrible "street art" which in some rare situations is beautiful, but most of the time is just vandalism.

@joeligj12 if you are able to host something else, I would recommend Matomo. It's open source and has the same features as Google Analytics.

@bfdi worth to mention that Nextcloud (an alternative to Google suite) has Mastodon support too.And it's a German company that does everything open source.
