@fitheach we still are but we're still a few weeks from flying to Japan (hopefully), then after staying with my folks here we'll be staying with the in-laws until we have some furniture in the rental place.. my wife keeps saying we're staying there for a month.. I keep correcting that to a week..

Leaving Livingston for the last time! My house keys delivered through the letter box (spare set with estate agent).. still no emotion, will not miss this house or this weird, soul-less town.

A few weeks ago we sent a bunch of boxes of stuff that we'll need in Japan earlier than the items travelling by cargo ship.One of the boxes contained books and magazines and the customs invoice itemised this box as books x 30.. this was fine.A few days ago we sent 1 final box with clothes and a few kids toys etc. We specified the non-clothes individually and then clothes as worn clothes x 100 (an approximate guess but given the quantity of baby clothes, a good guess).. Courier says no..

they are asking us to individually itemise the clothes that are in the box that they have.. Why do clothes require more detailed itemisation than books? I've asked them that question so I gather they'll burn the box and that'll save me some work.

This town has speakers around each cluster of houses and at 12pm and 5pm tunes are played to announce lunchtime and the end of the working day.. I discovered for the first time this morning that there is also a 6am tune.. so there is basically no escaping it now, I am going to have to get used to a much earlier start to the day than I'm used to!

We all also have a sort of emergency broadcasting system hooked up to the house internet which so far seems to be used for village marketing broadcasts.. so it's volume is going to be massively reduced!

@fitheach No, I'm sure 😜 , I've been using LINE for years on my phone.. it is very much the preferred messenger in Japan and even my employers use it to contact us.

Just had an interesting visitor in our garden, a Japanese pheasant! Apparently they are rarely seen around these parts but maybe it could feel the vegan vibes eminating from the house and felt safe enough to say hello 😆
