@TritTriton Yes, I do intend to update the icon for geminiprotocol.net. It'll be included in the next release.

I've been caffeine-free for a week now, having successfully (and rather painlessly) eased myself off of coffee. I feel... fine? My energy levels are stabler. Quality of sleep has improved. It would probably be wise to repeat this every few months. Can't wait to get back to enjoying the occasional cup, though. ☕️

@m0xee Thanks for the tip! This should help with debugging the issue and finding a workaround for Wayland.

Almost done with new features for #Lagrange v1.17. As one of the last touches, I'm adding Gemtext syntax highlighting in the upload dialog. Together with a couple of other tweaks, this makes it much nicer to write gemlog posts in the app.(Now I only need to find some time for gemlogging...)

v1.17 has landed in the dev branch. There are a few glitches with the new menu features but otherwise the desktop builds are looking pretty good. Now is a great time to check the updated strings for translation: https://weblate.skyjake.fiMobile will need some extra attention, so a simultaneous release is unlikely. I may also experiment with splitting up the release announcement in the interest of saving time.

Having spent a few days fixing and working around regressions and platform-specific glitches, #Lagrange v1.17.0 is entering the final test build stage. Exciting!Usually things still blow up pretty badly at this stage, so the stable release may still be a few days off…

My original Raspberry Pi 400 developed a problem with its USB ports. The computer would lock up if one nudged the attached cables even a little bit. It’s been sitting on the table unused for months, yet still I felt compelled to buy a new one. And the new one works great! But it’s still sitting unused because I’m too busy with other stuff.

Time for a new release of Bubble, my bulletin board system for #Gemini: gemini://bbs.geminispace.org/s/Bubble/11626There are wide-ranging improvements: new subspace views, grouped posts in feeds, feed customization options, new post actions, support for multiple Antennas, improvements in the composer, and a bunch of other small tweaks.

My biggest problem with Git submodules seems to be that my fingers always want to write "git submodulate”.

@syneryder I'm hosting it at home on a dedicated server PC. The installation is managed via docker-compose. I think the setup is pretty vanilla and done according to the official Mastodon Docker instructions. My IP address is not static but changes very seldom; perhaps that helps.I've had one upgrade that somehow managed to fail and I had to redo it a few times, but otherwise it has been pretty solid. All in all, I haven't had to worry about maintaining the instance that much.

I'm finally making #Lagrange's TUI an official part of the app in v1.18.This has been on the back burner for quite some time, but recently I've been polishing up keyboard navigation and text-mode rendering, and fixing UI layout issues at 80x25 resolution. It's not perfect and some GUI-isms are still leaking through, but I would say the TUI is getting quite usable now.#geminiprotocol

bbs.geminispace.org was launched exactly one year ago today. I wrote up a little retrospective to honor the occasion and review what has been happening on this Gemini-based bulletin board over the past year:gemini://bbs.geminispace.org/u/skyjake/16845

It has been a fonts-focused day.A few UI symbols in Lagrange have been displeasing me, so today I took the time to redraw them for Smol Emoji. It was delightful.(Has it really been 2+ years since I last worked on the font…?💀)The Noto fontpacks in the Font Library were also rebuilt with the latest available versions. They are available for download right away: gemini://skyjake.fi/fonts/news/2024-05_noto-update.gmi

TFW you fight with distribution scripts and AppImage configuration for hours and finally discover that the reason why the built binaries are misbehaving is because the compiler produced invalid code with the default -O3 and everything works perfectly if manually forcing -O2.

@reidrac I haven't had time to properly respond, but basically these issues have already been discussed and rejected in the past.It is very unlikely that any extensions to the protocol will be accepted. The specification is essentially frozen. My position is that Gemini is what is in on purpose and there is nothing to improve as such. Lagrange will adhere to the official specification only.

A two-week road trip in northern Norway is coming to a close. This was my first time in the region and I must say the landscapes were truly spectacular!Half of the time was spent managing my almost-3yo son, but even so, cruising along the mountain and coast roads was simply an amazing experience. (Apologies to the locals who must endure the onslaught of tourists...)

I've been gaining some momentum with Lagrange development after the summer vacations. I would expect version 1.19 to be ready for release soon(ish?). The focus for new features will be on the sidebars, but I've been fixing little UI glitches here and there in other places, too.
