@endDRM I wonder why there are no open source printer projects. Or even partially open source if some parts cannot be bought with schematics and source code.

@kev Sorry, I am unable to help, since I couldn't find good alternative for myself either. I am currently self hosting FreshRSS and I don't like the user interface. Technically a RSS reader sync service should 1. save the feeds user is following2. maybe keep track of read and unread status (alongside GUID)Both of which could be easily saved in few text files on any user selected "cloud service". My point is that the task is simple but every existin solution seems unnecessarily complicated

You can serve targeted ads without knowing anything about the user. It even works in print media. Create separate advertising category for each page and target the ads using the page contents, not based on the visitor. If the visitor is interested in the page, they are also very likely interested in the same content as ads. That's the easiest way to put ads on a website without compromising user privacy

I got triggered reading comments on youtube which suggested that #Mozilla should implement some sort of client side ad targeting technology. The comment section was about the Mozilla and #Meta collaboration from privacy perspective The issue is that such profile exists at all and could be leaked or used for malicious intents

It's insane how many people really believe their data is secure if it doesn't leave their device. Google floc and Apple have really succeeded in changing the public beliefs in this regard

@theruran The best way to make something happen which you have no power of is to offer an idea or a solution and being vocal about it, that's what I just did 👍

@thelinuxEXP From user experience #design perspective offering a choice is a design mistake, because the system didn't work correctly out of the box. That pretty much explains why the majority of users prefer somewhat restricted experiences. As mentioned in the video, #linux offers different collections of restrictions (in the form of desktop environments etc) from which the user can choose fromAnd if you want specific feature from free software, paying for it isn't bad idea

@EU_Commission USB C is primarily data port, so we are banning ports designed for charging? How about devices which need more watts than USB C can provide? Will this kill them? Will we be stuck with USB C forever? If the port is mandated, it isn’t worth to innovate better connector because it won’t be allowed on any device.I think better choice would’ve been forcing the charging standards to be open source and some way repairable

@diresock I think this should be called ”the throne of a true gamer”. I would have to try if it produces exactly same results 🤔

@aral Maintaining independent instance is still quite an work, there’s need for some infrastructure as code since all instances are relatively similar

@EU_Commission How about legalizing BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line Of Sight) flights in some controlled way? VLOS requirement means digital displays alone are not legal for controlling so using FPV goggless is only allowed if you are either indoors or have someone else with you to maintain VLOS which isn't that practical. Camera on the drone gives much better situational awarness and does not flip the relative controls when turning unlike in VLOS

@BrodieOnLinux @10volt At least you don’t need to worry about security updates since Windows update was broken 💁♂️I’m primarily amazed of the amount of hacks and workarounds people have developed to make something they don’t own suck less

@strypey Haven't we kind of given up on the idea that an individual can host their email? And if there are no individuals hosting it, it will be even more foreign as an idea to host it even with professional resources. The people who choose public services often aren't IT experts and I think a fixed cost service is more likely to win in eyes of a regular person than having a team of experts to host something even if it was cheaper, since the cost of labor is at least somewhat unpredictable.
