@ChrisWereThe clip I had in mind was one where Alan asks “What’s the best thing?”, and the fella rings in and says “sliced bread” thinking he’s got the correct answer. I don’t have the link to hand and I’m away from my PC. Will try finding it later.

@thumb Congratulations on completing the challenge! I have quite a similar setup on my phone. I also installed Anki on it, so if I’m on the subway and have forgotten my kindle, at least I can do something I consider a positive use of my time.

Yesterday I was asked why I used Linux and it caught me off guard. I really articulated my reasons very poorly. I’m not necessarily trying to convert anyone, but I’m wondering what’s your elevator pitch?

@joeligj12 where are you practicing? I started on keybr a few days ago and it introduces letters one at a time. I’m about mid 30s but only have about half the alphabet. I can definitely see my progress though

@thumb We all have those kind of days. I'm sure that nowadays a plastic bag with a big hole at the bottom could count as fashion in some places.

@hexdsl I’m worried about the future of podcasts. With those two platforms and Apple doing what they’re currently doing, I think there will be more and more exclusives and eventually many of the big podcasts will be exclusive to “podcast streaming platforms”.

@joeligj12 I managed to do quite a lot of reading. I was quite worried about how much I thought about social media though. It’s something that I’m definitely going to try again at some point.

@linmob A “planet” of sorts? I think a few free software communities use them. I don’t know if it can be changed to headlines only https://planet.emacslife.com/

I was hoping to finish the two books I'm reading before the end of the day, but I don't think that's going to happen. Here is a quick overview of what I read this year.#bookwyrmhttps://bookwyrm.social/user/jiewawa/2021-in-the-books

@mgrondin ah, I think you can only view the overview for your own account, and only when logged in. This was the year where I became a reader, so I’m really happy with my progress

@mgrondin I ended up doing a lot of reading during my commute and lunch breaks. I don’t expect to read as much next year. Thank you for introducing me to bookwyrm and I really enjoyed my time with the reading club. I particularly enjoyed reading Opt Out and have recommended it to a few friends.

A couple of years ago I had a pretty bad experience with Bluetooth headphones on Linux. I remember someone saying online that that’s just the way things are on Linux, so I just used wired headphones from then on. I tried using Bluetooth again yesterday and had a seamless experience once connected. I don’t know if it’s down to pipewire or some other project, but I’m very appreciative of all the work put in by developers.

@ilyess @ChrisWere I think it depends on the make of printer. I remember hearing a Destination Linux episode where they spoke highly of HP printers for Linux compatibility. I personally have never had any issues

@joel I use a kindle. If I was choosing again, I’d choose something with native support for epub. It’s not a big problem, and I’m in no rush to change. I just think it would be nice

@linmob been looking at the surface go 2 for a while. What’s the battery life like and does it get hot?
