@weilawei That is indeed bad!Never really fiddled much with ufw. I mostly opt for iptables/nftables without any frontend.pf for sure rules! 😉

Forgot my #NAS running #FreeBSD for quite some time now...That is the greatest thing a admin can receive: A system that just works without me fiddling with it forever.Just did the upgrades and all is well again.#FreeBSD just works and works and works... :freebsd:

@petit_suisse @shanmukhateja It lagged behing 3 weeks of updates - nothing I'd call ancient in any form. FreeBSD 14 amd64.It just showed that BSD systems run without much interaction at all.It is a NAS first and foremost with packages like Samba, vsftpd, Jails and some fun stuff to tinker with - completly excluded from the outside world. It only serves my own needs in a isolated local network. So, not ancient at all 😉 I sure know some pretty old stuff myself from customers... which never learn... let's just say that we also deal with a NT system and a crusty old 98 box... and yes, we have already told the customer 10000 times about the problem... but yeah... it is what it is. (At least we don't have to take the fall)

Gonna try #FreeBSD on a #ThinkPad i have lying around. :freebsd: #FreeBSD is very underrated when it comes to desktop usage - which is mighty fine! 😎

@ravshaul I personally use OPNSense on both firewalls at home. The GUI is pretty good and the system has proven to be stable. For a GUI BSD firewall i currently only know of pfSense and OPNSense... my info might be outdated though. In the end OPNSense does quite well, so no need to look for something else on my end.If you have OpenBSD already set up as a firewall/router there is no need to change imho.

Oh my, the modern web is so bloated/overloaded.My Thinkpad x260 (Yoga) is dying while playing a Youtube video... let alone dropping a lot of frames.I know, the CPU is older (i5-6200U) but come on - this is crazy.I've set the notebook up to play around with #FreeBSD on the desktop some more. Running #Xfce currently and having some dev stuff installed.#FreeBSD handles the notebook like a champ, everything works... sadly that is not the same for using the web with a modern browser.720p playbook loads up the CPU at a constant 50/60%.Well, at least surfing the web is kinda ok... but not great tbh.Times really have changed... for the worse in some aspects.I still remember surfing the web back than with a tiny AMD single core CPU - which was more then enough.Enough ranting.
