Ok, here's my Bill Shatner story. Some years ago, I happened to be on-set when he was filming some intro for some website. Someone hands a camera to green PA and says "take some pictures". The PA takes a picture and the flash goes off. Shatner stops mid line to kindly request turning off the flash. Just kidding. Instead he spends the next two minutes ripping this poor PA a new asshole. Poor kid probably still hasn't come back out of his shell.

@Ricardus That's certainly consistent with what I've seen. What's wild was how fast he mode shifted from being angry as all fuck to hobnob with others who were in the studio as he walked out.

@Ricardus Maybe the complexity of dealing with non-near-instant generation times for larger files? I suppose you could do lazy population of the value, but then you'd have to stop generation if it's closed and also manage that when most of that stuff is written in a blocking sort of way.Certainly would be nice to have a "Generate hash..." right click option, though. Or a button in the properties.

Here's some things I've done to make my Mastodon experience a bit better:- Turn off crop images so you'll see the full image.- Always show media. Not a worry for me, so saves the click.- Always expand content warnings. Same as above.- Setup filters to out content I don't want to see (sorry wordle posts).- Adjust automatic post delete to taste.- Filter to just languages that you can read.- Group boosts- Adjust notification settings to taste (settings button in the notifications timeline)

@Ricardus Having done a lot of UI, I'd worry about "No good deed goes unpunished". I'd pick a value that seemed to work well for me and then someone w/ a less capable system configuration would complain the dialog is laggy.Personally, I'm a big fan of lazy loading, but it does add complication.

@Ricardus @SDF I was yesterday. I think it was due to a DNS change as the broken and working sites were resolving to different IPs. I cleared the DNS cache here and things got better.

@Ricardus It was doing that to me just before my order seemed to make it to the US, show up on USPS briefly, and then drop off the planet.Best I can figure is AliExpress has expressed the throwing the counterfeit parts in the trash part of the process.

@ParadeGrotesque When I'm on those sorts of trips, I try and get some exploring in. I think of myself like a alien visitor, exploring the mundane. Find something that local's would consider fairly boring: the local library, or a shopping center (but a center w/ at least a few non-chain places).I just walk around and try to be present. It's amazing how often I think about some random experience I had while doing that. Somehow, there's novelty in the mundanity of it all.
