       Does anyone know where to buy revenue stamps in normal neighborhood locations? Can I get one at a post office or conbini that isn't at or near an immigration office?

       @Haikyoneko Revenue stamps are also needed for the drivers license place, and there are a couple of other situations over the years (one having to do with transfer of a car, iirc) where I have had to use them. They're not just for non-citizen use.

       @Haikyoneko Well, I work near a brand new big post office in Tokyo's Koto ward, so I would guess they have them. If they don't, the Koto central post office which is massive probably does.

       @futurebird YES.I'm running a club teaching 10th graders about sustainable computing and running Linux on our ten year old decommed MacBook Airs, helping them understand that e-waste isn't just bad for the environment, in many cases it is actually unnecessary for productivity.        My reaction to so much consumer tech these days is: I do not need this.I do not want this.Who needs this? Who wants this?I feel differently about plenty of large industrial tech or like renewables (solar panels, batteries, anything heat pump related, etc). Personal computing though? It's peaked. Everything new feels exploitive or just worse.

       Windows 11 and macOS in the Big Sur era don't fundamentally alter the desktop paradigm and neither do most desktop environments on *nix, and those that do are used by a minority of a minority. Mobile paradigm is pretty set now too, going all the way back to the original iPhone in 2007. Social media is largely derivative of that same time period. Basically being microblogging.

       We've reached the point where we should be focusing on making what we have more sustainable and efficient. Passing on a standard of living and access to information that would have made kings 300 years ago jealous. We're basically just making nonsense because stonks go up. It's pretty ridiculous.

       Why... this... instead of... I don't know... more efficient food production? Denser photovoltaics? Or, like, if this can be used specifically as accessibility aids, then market it like that, get it approved as a medical device, work with governments and insurance companies to get it to those people, so they can have a better quality life?Instead this feels like it's just... a fashion statement that actually sucks at what it purports to do.

       We have so much. We throw away so much. And it feels like we just keep churning through resources unnecessarily. I am increasingly sick, not a metaphor I mean physically ill, at how much waste we produce as a global civilisation despite fully understanding the finite nature of resources and the effect it has on the biosphere. And in so many cases, it seems we literally produce new e-waste. It's garbage at the time of production.It's insane.

       On the "yes things are better in some ways" list...Rent soundtrack came up on random and I was thinking:When was it exactly when AIDS/HIV stopped being "that Gay disease" and "you can get it from touching someone else" and it being viewed as a complete death sentence?Because it hasn't been any of that for a long time and... I couldn't tell you when it changed. But I sure as hell remember when it was all those things.And now it's... just... not.

       I want to try this again with more reach.I want to help my employer #fedihire you, and get you #fedihired. Do you want to teach ICT/CS/IT/etc in Japan? Because I am currently stepping in to take these courses but I am the head of IT, no longer an active teacher. The school uses the UK curriculum, does help with residency for those outside of Japan, has a union. Teaching credentials preferred, but how they factor in can be variable.Take my work... please!
