@ActionRetro On the one hand: aww, I'll be out Sunday. On the other: yessss, I yearn to see the weirdest 90s OS/computer combinations possible. I'd be up for Windows NT/PPC on that thing, though it seems not actually doable.

@ActionRetro Can’t go wrong with good ol’ Trantor, though.

@textfiles Agreed all around. Without third-party clients, Twitter may as well be entirely down, and I don't know why I'd want to go back.

@textfiles I have my TI-92 with Plus module tucked away in a drawer somewhere and now I have an urge to dig it up and re-live my TI-BASIC days.

@vga256 That era where Aqua was introduced but not generally available was _weird_. I remember all the Mac, Windows, and Linux themes that kept trying to mimic it from screenshots, with wildly-varying levels of success.

@vga256 I probably used this exact terrible WindowBlinds theme in Windows 2000.

@webmink @carlwgeorge @kjjaeger As somebody who was on the Lotus customer side, seeing the “vision” of an open desktop environment based on Linux and ODF fold as soon as their first marketing push failed, I can agree with that. I still, even now, like the idea in broad strokes, but their actual actions, and not the ostensible philosophical reasons, are the proof.

For a few glorious minutes there, I had one cat laying on my legs and another laying on my chest as I relaxed on the couch. I’ve basically accomplished everything I need to in life.

I do miss the earnestness of Maya/etc. 3D landscapes (visible but obscured in this screenshot). It feels so much like 1E D&D drawings, where it's just some nerds converting their half-formed sci-fi ideas into reality.

The strategy, by the way, was to go to war against the Azdgari with one of the factions until they deploy their customized Arada. Then, you disable, board, and commandeer it - its shield recharge is way better than anything else, and you can go toe-to-toe with basically anything for the rest of the game.

Actually, I think I mis-remembered this. Maybe you have to _ally_ with the Azdgari up until that mission, then either hope the ship is disabled by your enemies or sneakily disable it yourself.

@vkc One of the things I've learned over time is that sometimes things need to be a little crappy to be really great.
