if you don’t know what the #aabill is, it’s basically the australian government hurriedly applying their proven track record of IT incompetence to encryption, rendering any concept of digital privacy and security a complete joke.

…and if you think it won’t affect you because you’re outside australia? if your data passes though here at all—like if you’re sending imessages to aussie pals—anyone with access to that government-mandated backdoor will be able to see it.

@chidgey and yet, it doesn’t need to for it to impact the tech industry here. fun fact: the legislation allows ‘em to jail anyone who doesn’t comply by providing access, and i can guarantee you that they won’t care if it’s impossible or not.

@chidgey the result will be larger companies pulling products from australia, and smaller vendors (like me) being jailed if they refuse to comply. neither of which needs it to be even vaguely feasible.
