@fribbledom PI is underpowered, and while it does have the Neon vector instruction set, it does not have a HW decoder, last I checked. The Neon vector unit can help the vector quantization, but it is not a real HW decoder.

Might as well announce it: I will be moving to the Boston area in the next few months. A company we were doing work for ahas acquired us and I now will be in charge of Hardware, Silicon, and the Embedded Systems For the company. 28 years ago, I moved to the PNW to work on a new operating system, after working on two others near Boston. Since then, I have worked on 2 more, founded two companies, and met some amazing people. Now I need to sell this house.

@fribbledom we do the same. We build everything from source, including the dependencies, and mirror most things so we know what we are building. That includes building the kernel with buildroot.

@Gargron I would never assume an ID string in JSON would ever be a 64 bit number. Twitter went string in their ID (unfortunately they had to have id_string, because they were dumb when they first came out and used a 32 bit number on the key "id"). Also, due to JSON's idiocy on number overflow, a string is best. If someone made an assumption on their client, that is their issue, not Mastodon's, IMHO.

New Raspberry Pi4, with 4 Cortex-A72 cores. This one has 4GB if memory. Since bootstrapping is done different, booting of USB is not supported yet, but when updated, should be able to boot off a USB3.x drive.

@fribbledom Well, it did/does have virtual memory and a page file. And our target was that size. But as the co-creator Of VAX/VMS said: "Even a virtual memory system needs real memory" ;)I remember when VAX/VMS ran in 256K. But we were younger then ;)
