Any #gnuradio experts here in the #fediverse?I've done so little with this recently outside of listening to FM radio. 🤣Still, it'd be cool to connect with others interested in SDRs and #radio #hacking.#SDR

I'm not sure whose idea it was, but I've started using the term #community when referring to a #fediverse instance, and it seems to make things a lot more clear for the average person.* Communities might be insular or they might be open.* Community leaders set up and enforce their own rules.* Your local community will influence what you see around you, but you can interact with people from outside your community, too.* You can move to a new community if you'd like.* Etc …

One feature I'd like to see in future #fediverse software would be the addition of a default CW.This should be something that can be set at the server level or the user level and it would add a default CW to any post that doesn't already have one, even those coming in through federation.I think something like this would be possible in a future #Mastodon release if @Gargron okay'd it.#defaultCW

@adamasnemesis @eylul @cwebberThe only solution to embrace, extend, extinguish is to encourage expansion to everyone. The more applications using the protocol, the better. In fact, it's the one area where we can use corporations to our advantage. If we can get multiple big companies to adopt it then it'll be difficult for any one to e³.#EncourageExpansionToEveryone

Hacking isn't like watchdogs, it's more like that montage/timelapse scene in Hackers where they're just reading code and drinking soda for hours and hours. It can be frustrating and time-consuming and a lot of it is just research, but that's part of what makes the payoff so great.I mention this because I recently got a #FlipperZero and I was looking at the discord communities and seeing a lot of very green folks there.Frankly, I think one of the best things about the Flipper Zero is the fact that it makes a lot of these protocols more accesible to new #Hackers and #Makers than ever before! So it's a bit disheartening to also see how many people are there looking at it as more of a 'prank' device or a gimmick to impress their friends and who seem to have no interest in actually learning anything. Don't get me wrong, there's a LOT to learn when it comes to a device like this. I don't expect a newcomer to jump in headfirst and start programming firmware, soldering up new modules, and generating bruteforce playlists in python. I'd be happy if people were just _curious_ about some of the things they were playing around with on the flipper and picked one or two of those things to look at.The flipper, brilliantly, stores (almost?) all the captured data in various text formats, so newcomers can capture their tap card and then see the raw data in a text file that they can easily edit and experiment with sans coding.Luckily, I can see that even amongst this demographic that there are people who have started to dive deeper. What may have started as a desire for a shiny gadget to chase tiktok prestige is turning some of these youngsters towards the dark arts, and I think that is absolutely a net positive.Hacking _is_ a montage. It's hours, days, months of research. It's trial and error, educated guesses, and experiments. Hacking isn't a tour, it's unguided exploration.Sure, it can be frustrating and time-consuming, I don't think we'd want it any other way.#Hacking #HackThePlanet #FlipperZero #Flipper

So, after having the #PineTab2 for a while now I have some nice things to report.Firstly, remember that it's still dev-oriented, so I wouldn't yet recommend it to an average Linux user. It's still squarely in the domain of the more adventurous. That said, I've been using the DanctNix Arch distro on it and it's actually surprisingly functional for an early-release @PINE64 device. The OS is really just a desktop distro with an on-screen keyboard installed, but it works well on the large form-factor and with the addition of a package or two the auto-rotate also works fine. The only notable omission currently that would keep me from using it as my main lightweight linux portable is the lack of a stable wifi driver. I'm sure it'll be solved soon enough, but for now you'll be needing a supported USB wifi dongle. The camera driver is another thing that's missing, which may be a bigger issue to other users, but for me it's a nice-to-have and not a need-to-have.Putting aside the software, the hardware leaves little to be desired. Obviously I'll never complain about getting more performance, but given the price and the form-factor I think it's a very fair offering. The IO is actually pretty decent for the tablet market and as a dev device it shipped with the debug adaptor, so flashing the eMMC with new images/OSs is rather easy. The big standout for me was the keyboard case. The PineTab2 has a set of pogo pins which provide a USB 2.0 connection and the keyboard case uses this to provide a keyboard and touchpad. These feel surprisingly good, with the kickstand hinge _also_ feeling extremely sturdy and well integrated.Really, I feel that the ARM version of this tablet is actually not too far from being usable day-to-day by the more hardcore Linux fans, once the onboard BES2600 wifi and bluetooth drivers are ported successfully.

Does anyone on the fediverse know enough #Armenian to translate this page from my family bible? Also, any religious scholars who might be able to tell me about what's on these pages?Boosts very welcome so I can reach people in #Scholar and #Codicology circles.Edit:Some additional context has been added in replies, but for those wondering about age:"The oldest leaves I think are 11th century, the majority of the leaves look like 14th-16th century […]"

@vfrmedia @kravietz I'm only surprised that this is happening only now. In Canada all the major banks had this feature almost as long as phone cameras have been good enough to support it.

I recently got a new phone—new to me, but I only buy used/refurb—and it has wireless charging. While I wouldn't really pay extra for it, I'd forgotten how convenient it can be. I've plugged one of my old wireless chargers into my solar battery system and I'm really enjoying just mindlessly popping it down on a pad.

@tatsumoto I've been enjoying Kanji Dojo for writing practice.I use a plugin to export kanji I'm already familiar with from Anki—personally I use an Anki interval of 90 days, as that's a point where I should recognize a kanji pretty well—and add them to a deck in Kanji Dojo.At that point, it's similar to your production TSC, but with several words that use the kanji rather than a sentence. What makes it work better for me is that I can actually draw out the kanji right on my phone.Obviously you can do this with paper and pen, but having it on my phone and laptop is super convenient. It's open source with a GPL3 license and the appimage works great on my desktop/laptop, too.

@tatsumoto I use an Anki plugin to periodically sync kanji from Anki to KD, so it's barely any less easy or simple:https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1431221450It's not totally automated, but it's 30-60 seconds that I do once or twice a month to keep them in sync.

@tatsumoto I looked at implementing something like that in Anki, but it interfered with my swipe gestures on ankidroid—which I do have to use semi-regularly as I travel often for work—and it would have taken a lot of work to replicate the refined writing experience of KD.
