I don't know when Gmail started sorting by "most relevant" by default, but it has really thrown me off a couple of times.Email has a natural sort order, by received time, not whatever garbage heuristics are being done to guess what I think will be most relevant.

@maddlerGmail sorting isn't as bad as search when it refuses to obey quotes and keeps showing results for "Did you mean..."The one that really pissed me off was searching for info on VAST's data storage blade chassis, or "DBoxes," and it would only show me results for Xbox.

@vbabka I... don't want to live on this planet any more. I guess I haven't for quite a while, to be fair.

@vbabka It really does. Or to just dig a hole and sit in it for a while to see if things improve.

@Nonilex My chest hurts from how angry the incident and responses from government officials makes me. I just don't have words.

@7666 Wait, this is a real thing? Are people unaware of the various other "Trump <thing>" ventures, all of which have failed.

@ricci @heretical_i Hehe, I was going to ask if you'd let the TUHS folks know, but was thrilled to see @robpike was on it.TUHS mailing list thread about it: https://www.tuhs.org/pipermail/tuhs/2025-November/032758.htmlCan't wait, @bitsavers!#unix

I've been out of the loop for a couple of years on Linux phones. I'm poking around on blogs and Mastodon posts, but I figured I'd just ask:Whats currently (as of January 2026) the most functional, stable, boring phone + OS combination?I have a PinePhone from a few years ago and a couple Pixels to play around with.(If you're comfortable with it and feeling generous, I would appreciate a boost for visibility)#linuxmobile #linuxphone

@futurebird A trick I use sometimes is to start and make immediately pause a video on my phone so that it shows up in my watch history, then go to the watch history on my TV and start it from there

@Nonilex I don't have words for how deeply disturbing, messed up, and embarrassing this all is.We (the US) have had a military presence on Greenland since WWII. Denmark is a NATO member. An attack on Greenland by Russia or China would trigger Article 5. There is no military gain from this, only alienation of a longstanding, close ally.

@robdaemon I tend to assume Apple devices will only work smoothly with other Apple devices. I wouldn't put it past them to intentionally misimplement parts of a standard to let something *mostly* work with a third-party product, but not as smoothly as something which is messed up in the same way with the Apple logo on the side.(It's likely clear from that, but I have a strong bias against Apple)

Are folks retreating from the LLM hellscape of the web to Gopher or Gemini protocols?I'd really like to hear from folks about what's going on in the "small web" these days. Where to look for info, is one protocol gaining/losing tracking, or have they attracted userbases with different interests?Any fedi-like communities on these protocols?Boosts for visibility are appreciated, but there's no pressure to do so.#smallweb #gopher #geminiprotocol
