It's interesting to see people on twitter explaining their perceived problems with mastodon.e.g., many people are saying, "it's too silo'd", but i'm pretty sure at this point everyone I cared about following on twitter, I'm now following on mastodon.despite all our rage, we are all in little silos.

the ML people keep having these "debates", which are basically "is deep learning enough"what would HCI's debates be?

the media is strange. mastodon is "too complicated" because you choose a server but otherwise it's basically the same as twitter… but, somebody just lost millions in bitcoin because of they didn't check the PGP hash on a server software update (or something) and yet that thing was supposed to supplant fiat currency? 😂

i don't know why people think they need stable diffusion to make pictures for their slides… i made this drawing for a presentation 14 years ago, and it should be good enough for anyone

i've built an AI detector error detector that detects if your AI system for detecting AI writing has detected it correctly or not and offers a natural language explanation as to why it detected or didn't detect it correctly or incorrectly. it's being used by 7,000 school teachers, 450 public defense attorneys, and 17 law enforcement professionals. we plan to test it sometime in the future.

we have chosen to put most of our research into documents in PDF format.PDFs are a huge pain to make accessible.most scientists write their papers in Latex, overleaf, etc., which cannot produce accessible PDFs.to make such PDFs accessible, one uses Adobe Acrobat, which is expensive and proprietary.increasingly, we post our PDFs to arXiv, which ~forbids accessible PDFs b/c they can't be compiled from source.~none of our science is accessible.artifacts (and file formats) have politics.

@hn50 I don’t get why this answer needs a “world model”, isn’t it pretty probable that many someones wrote something about something being turned upside down and it falling out at that location?

nothing could cause a new AI winter quite like convincing all the CEOs in the world to just like fire their workers and replace them with chatGPT now… "don't worry guys, it's ready," we could say.

@shacker @bkeegan social don't wait though… so, if the argument is that threads is doing great, i'd say it's super precarious until they have obvious features. i signed up, thought it was cool to see all the activity, but i haven't posted since b/c i'm mostly a web user
