@clive ah, that CT imagery is brilliant. More interested in that than the AirPods tbh!

@clive that's a great read, thanks. Not sure if any attempt has been made to measure it, but it felt like 'skolstrejk för klimatet' really cut through and changed the tone of debate - also about five years ago iirc.

@ChrisMayLA6 It was one of the most infuriating episodes of my career in Scottish local government, the way officials responsible for building new social housing bought into the gas industry propaganda that new developments would be "simply converted to green hydrogen" in a few years. The few social housing tenants we had that had had heat pumps, were telling us they loved them. There was really no excuse for sticking with gas for so long.

@interfluidity Still laughing at this bit:> It’s like if you hired someone to redo your kitchen and they started building a boat in your driveway. Great read, thanks for sharing

@drmambobob Sean Bean was great in that role, though I think he had the advantage of playing the only character with any depth!

A wee explore yesterday of the Glen Mallie pinewood restoration. This was once all covered in Scots Pine - the commandos accidentally burned most of it down in 1942. A recent wedge of cash from Scot Gov has enabled a restoration project to commence. Well worth a visit if that's your sort of thing, though it might look very different in fifteen years, so maybe worth waiting!

@drgeraint I feel seen. My partner's bike does what he mentions - it routes the brake hose through the headset bearing. A fresh bearing often means a new set of bar tape and always a brake bleed. Ridiculously poor design.

@ChrisMayLA6 you can't expect people to work without protection, or even hope that they'll enter politics at all - especially when one of the other terms of the job is really low pay (talking about councillors here).Part of the reason I quit after seven years as a Highland councillor was the stalking and violent threats I was subject to. The police were great, but all they can do is wait for a crime to be committed.

@strypey @ChrisMayLA6 Have sympathy with that but not convinced tougher rules on protesting outside any private residence are needed - and that would be a huge infringement on civil liberties for sure.

@futurebird for the defence: m'lady, the verdict requires three things: a guilty act, a guilty mind, and jurisdiction. We do not dispute (licks paw) that the first two requirements are met. However the defence asserts the court has no jurisdiction inn this matter, the accused having no superior but God. Dieu et mon droit, suckers.

Andy Wightman showing very clearly why local democracy in Scotland lacks the proper institutions and relies far too much on folk volunteering or joining community orgs. For context, I'm one of the directors (appointed) of the community trust featured in this story - that has been subject to whats plausibly an attempted hostile takeover.Join your local community trust folks! https://andywightman.scot/2026/01/community-ownership-and-local-landed-power/
