Major update on the Cooler Screens situation. Yes, they have printed the shelf plans on a plotter and taped them over the broken screens. The punchline: the printouts are hot as hell. Underneath them, the screens are still on.

while performing trash cart surgery, somewhere in my brain, something from flight school lit up. I stop-drilled the ends of the cracks. pretty sure that's on the PPL exam.I'll have you know that's an aviation-grade repair.

I fear it's time to buy a new NAS. My current setup is running a now-out-of-support Debian release and upgrading it will be painful because it's a poorly-supported ARM SOC from a vendor that went out of business years ago.I could always go the easy commercial route with something from Synology or QNAP, but does anyone know of reasonably priced hardware I could run Linux on that's in a similar size and power consumption bracket?

It's sort of frustrating because, on the one hand, I do not care for these NAS operating systems like the commercial options for FreeNAS or OMV or whatever. I've always just configured everything myself, I don't use much more than NFS and SMB anyway. But on the other hand, it's hard to find compact and low-power setups that can support 4+ SATA drives.

@foone I love X10! I wonder if the tablet was used for some sort of janky conference room automation? X10 didn't see a whole lot of commercial use, there were other options in the professional world, but that big chunk of milled plastic seems beyond even the early-era home automation enthusiast.
