@simon @tomscott middle/end, i reckon. current architectures are refinements of ideas that aren't new - there is just a lot more compute poweri reckon not too much too worry about when a model that takes millions to train just makes some pretty (and weird) pictures and text

@stux he doesn't go much into the upsides: the climate is just fantastic, the area is beautiful, and the career opportunities are limitless, in an environment of unimaginable possibilities and fundingi've been in the Bay Area/Santa Cruz area, not far from San Francisco, since 2001. Everything he says is true. But I could never have had a career like i've had in the Netherlands, and that in constant sunshine, instead of motregen grey...

@stux en toen werd het moeilijkI guess the good part is that it is not quite as crazy as San Francisco...the bad part is that the county together with Monterey and San Matteo counties, are among the most expensive for housing in the entire country, both in terms of rent and ownrent is quickly > $2000/m, houses 750K-1M+Of course, the closer to the beach the higher the numbers go. The good thing is that you're never far from one, though
