TL;DR - Reboost rather than (or as well as) Favourite to help others find cool stuff.Wondering why I "Reboost" regularly? Mastodon doesn't have a "your friends liked this, you might too" type of algorithm behind it.The only way to help other people see the stuff you enjoy is to Reboost it - a "Favourite" just shows the person who posted it that people liked it - it won't make it more or less likely to show up for other people.

@64 @Rexpanse will be less efficient as it's keeping a volume of water at dispensing temperature all the time rather than for the couple of minutes before you want a hot drink. Unless you're making hot drinks literally all the time. Could be improved if it was on a timer so it turns off at bedtime and wakes with you.

@Rexpanse @64 Yeah, makes sense, if it takes 2 mins to boil a normal kettle using 2.4kW of power, then this one taking even 30 seconds (assuming the 5 seconds advertised is for the smallest cup at the lowest temp) to do a full 98 deg tall cup will be way cheaper.

@vik @Rexpanse @64 all standard NZ power points are rated max. 2.4kW. You'd need to have a 15A plug top wired on, and have the kettle's socket potentially rewired (depending on what else is on the circuit) and changed to a 15A.

@BigD They must be new around here (like most of us!) and haven't heard that posters (tooters?) are encouraged to use Content Warning (CW) to hide stuff like that behind an extra button press - so those who want to see it (anyone? anyone? Bueller?) can click and see it but the rest of us don't have to. Also works well for politics, food, and other topics.

Interesting, my filters are able to filter content but not CW headings

@vik @Rexpanse @64 I will err on the side of regulatory caution when talking about electricity, as (a) it's rather dangerous, (b) not every house has modern wiring, and (c) insurance companies will look for any way out of paying a claim.
