Again, not to overstate this, but with DSD you can literally stream an entire application screen directly from the server to your browser with zero JS.Then, based on your own determination of what needs to load when, you can upgrade a set of custom elements. These components **don't even need template rendering mechanics** to be on the client if you don't need that. Got a component which only needs to attach a click handler? Ship *only that code* to the client!Really, really freaking cool.

Just pushed out an update to my esbuild HTML Modules plugin:https://github.com/whitefusionhq/esbuild-plugin-html-modules/releases/tag/v0.7.0In case you're wondering, an "HTML Module" is essentially a simple single-file component format that's just like regular HTML: markup along with script tags and style tags. The "module" part is that it's fully importable via JavaScript. But you can also just build a template engine that renders an HTML Module server-side. (I'm currently building one for Ruby!)

@peepstein @blaine @Gargron I don't agree with any of that. Mastodon is Mastodon. Everyone in the know, knows exactly what that is, and those who don't can be educated accordingly. I've already gone through this entire conversation with regard to the term "podcast" (no, it does not mean "any audio show on the internet"!)It's really quite dangerous to repurpose technical terms to mean what they are not. HTML is not any markup, it's a very specific type of markup. Markdown is not Textile. etc.

Imagine if routinely reading and reviewing the rendered HTML code of your primary webpages as shipped to browsers was part of your organization's QA process.Imagine how many issues devs would find just by looking at what **actually** gets interpreted and executed by user agents.HTML is not “website.exe”. You can't just "compile" your website and call it a day. That's not how any of this works…and yet folks assume that's how it works. (Or worse, should work!)Do you read HTML? I do.

A text-oriented flavor of Instagram compatible with the Fediverse is one of those extremely rare instances where what's right and what's good for business actually align. That's what's so wild about this news.Meta can keep their **gigantic** community of creators happy, woo advertisers, and stave off trigger-happy regulators by showing how compatible their network is with “competitors”, **and** spit in the eye of a social network that's long nipped at their heels (the birdsite).

My loathing for the national condition of the Republican Party is quickly being matched by my loathing for the particular Republicans here in Oregon. Instead of, y'know, actually doing their damn jobs and working alongside the Democratic majority, they're constantly throwing temper tantrums and causing the entire legislative process to grind to a friggin' halt. Nine (!) senators are already disqualified for re-election!This is absolutely and categorically unacceptable.https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/2023/05/republicans-walkout-of-oregon-senate-threatens-to-kill-hundreds-of-bills.html

For those wondering, even though we live in the "blue" Pacific Northwest, there are entrenched far-right enclaves here which are every bit as detestable as in the Bible Belt. I was aghast a while back when I drove through an area in WA north of the Columbia River and saw an entire town backing a bigoted, “thin blue line” Sheriff who had publicly denounced state-level decrees on Covid, guns, and other issues. That sort of crap's all over the place if you know where to look. 😕

"Reddit represents one of the largest data sets of just human beings talking about interesting things," Huffman said. "We are not in the business of giving that away for free."You and me, we're just data sets. Years of interaction with fellow human beings, building community, sharing insight and creativity…it’s all just data. Data to be mined and monetized.Huffman's not mad Reddit was scraped for a chatbot. He's mad he wasn't paid for the privilege. It's his data, you see. His. Not yours.

I overheard Rob Eisenberg use the phrase "standards-aligned innovation" in a recent panel talking about #WebComponents, and it's my absolute favorite new phrase when talking about #WebDev.It's not about "vanilla" yes/no as if it's a binary. We will *always* have some degree of third-party activity on the web, building libraries and even frameworks on top of the specs. But do those libraries/frameworks try to *align* with where standards are headed? Or are they off in the weeds somewhere?
