@dredmorbius @alexandra @amolith Woah, that's next level, crazy impressive. If I was looking for another project, I think it would be worth it. Right now, I'm juggling a few other professional and personal projects, so I can't justify spending the time. What e-reader do you use?

I found this service https://pixxibook.com/ which seems to produce really nice content. Only downside is that it's one blog per book, afaik.

My girlfriend is doing physics research and needs to work on a linux cluster for her work. So far, I've gotten her using Vim, ranger, tmux, and the kitty terminal emulator (she wanted kitty for it's nice themeing options, lol)I'm so unbelievably happy

@person one thing at a time, haha. I’ve introduced her to fzf, but don’t know if she uses it or set it up to work with bash history, and we only installed exa on her Mac where she has homebrew installed

While AI just had its “iPhone” moment it’s important to remember there was only a single iPhone moment, followed by years of mediocre incremental improvements. I wouldn’t be surprised if GPT-X doesn’t get too much better than this.

@niplav @jarbus I think it’s hard to predict, because these things will go from solving 90% of a problem to 95%, to 95.5%, etc. I don’t think anyone knows for sure what edge cases will be solvable at 95% vs 99.9%, just like I wouldn’t claim to know what specific roads a Tesla can and can’t drive on autopilot successfully. It’s a bit of a cop-out, but I don’t think humans understand the nature of the problems we are trying to solve in the first place.

@niplav I’ll probably still have a yearly panic attack whenever I see how good the new GPT is lol. But I can’t imagine seeing another increase similar to that from gpt3 to gpt4 in a single generation. But maybe the edge cases and slight mistakes really will go away with more compute. Nobody knows!

@BrodieOnLinux @kev I’m a fosstodon user and haven’t been following any of this, the instance has been wonderful so far in part thanks to the work their team puts in :) I really hope it doesn’t shut down, I don’t want to keep migrating servers every few years. I came from mastodon.technology a while back when they had issues
