I'm noticing folks doing an #introduction so here's one for me!I'm Jami and I'm a Software Developer specializing in the #frontend currently working on the #designsystem for va.gov. Work that's near and dear to my heart as a #veteran myself.I enjoy #woodworking πŸ”¨ (I just finished building a 300+ lb workbench!) and I enjoy #sports, especially watching my beloved #chicagobears 🏈I'm in Chicago with my partner, our dog, and two cats. ❀️ πŸ• 🐈 🐈 Thanks @nova and all for #hachyderm!

New project started! I forgot to take a photo before I hacked it up but this is a figured cherry board I grabbed the last time I was at the hardwood store. So shimmery. ✨I'm continuing my drawer making practice so this will hopefully become a small desktop cabinet if all goes well.#woodworking

The figured cherry board had a cup and a twist so it took a little longer to get it all into square than I had hoped. But I just finished dimensioning the major drawer pieces so now we're really moving!I'm going to use some of my apple tree wood for the drawer fronts. It'll be interesting to see how it plays with the cherry. 🍏 πŸ’https://hachyderm.io/@jamigibbs/110435602088100768#woodworking

Working on this project has given me a huge amount of respect for cabinet makers. I haven't made something before that could get so critically f**ked just by making the smallest mistake. I've come close a few times with this one.But I'm loving how the apple tree wood is turning out!#woodworking

I can’t not include this guy in my build thread. Ever present. Ever in the way. #woodworking #catsofmastodon

oh my god I am so relieved the drawers are fitting in their slides. what a panic! There's just a little bit of adjustment still to do but between gluing up the case, installing the slots, and cutting the slide grooves, I was sweating! This is probably the most stressful hand tool #woodworking project I've made yet.Now I really need to figure out drawer pulls. πŸ€”

I have just a few very minor things left to do but with the drawer handles installed and finish on, I'm wrapping up this build thread with some final photos of my apple + cherry wood desktop drawers. πŸπŸ’πŸͺ΅I think the biggest thing I learned building something like this is that even being the tiniest bit out of square or under/over measured will have a ripple effect on everything else. There are so many ways to mess it up. Fix things early and often. πŸ‘‹πŸ»#woodworking

As long as we allow guns to be such an integral part of our society, it feels like we're all just waiting for our turn. There are just too many guns and too many people with too easy access to them.

@stux It is beyond exhausting when people do this. In any discussion tbh but especially this one.

Did y'all know that you can get a mitered corner on a dovetail joint?? I just love the clean lines of miters but dovetails are so much stronger. Sure, there's a secret/hidden dovetail joint but this one is the best of both worlds. This is my first try and it's pretty rough but it was super fun to see it actually come together!#woodworking

Well I messed this one up pretty good. πŸ™ƒWe just have to celebrate our successes and learn from our failures. And there's A LOT of learning in #woodworking.
