New version of the clients are online and working as expected. Now it's time to enjoy some music and let the clients crunch through videos. #encoding #ffmpeg

@selea Something I wrote to do distributing encoding/muxing across multiple computers: https://sisyphus.jamesthebard.net

@selea I absolutely had to...lol. The documentation has saved my ass so many times. It's a complicated system, and there really wasn't a great way of reducing that so documentation is a 100% requirement. Plus, if anyone decided to try it out for themselves they wouldn't be completely lost.

So, the start of the next dumb project: a smol rack. I've got a 3D printer and the urge to see what all can be fit into this thing. #homelab #minirack

@selea I *might* need another switch for other plans, but I used this to provide power for VoIP phones...think it should work perfectly for this. I really want to add some mini-PCs for Proxmox, but that's later down the line.

All of the Pis are now in the rack and operational. Looking really good, VPN is even operational. Now the wait starts for the other servers... #minirack #homelab

@alejandrobdn The Pis are only handling internal services like DNS and auth. All of the stuff I'm hosting resides on the Proxmox cluster like mirrors and stuff...well, what's left of the Proxmox cluster...

Okay, front of the rack. Gonna need a 2U vented plate for the front but the shelves should work for the Minisforum MS-A2 nodes. Also should be enough room below that shelf for the bricks.#minirack #homelab

Okay, everything is buttoned up again, only almost stripped a rack hole out. However, time to leave things alone and see if it catches fire.#homelab #minirack

Got the fan grills in which significantly lowers the chances of me putting a finger or cable into one of the rear ventilation fans which totally hasn't happened.#homelab #minirack #fans

@alejandrobdn I was going to 3D print, but really wanted the silver "old-school" kind of grill. I noticed that the top MS-A2 was baking, but it took a bit to figure out exactly why. Started with a 120mm Corsair fan that didn't really do anything, then found an old Noctua air cooler and pull the fans off of that.

Finally got the laptop where I wanted it. Proper "nightlight", touchpad gestures, notifications that look correct for the theme, proper `fish` theme...Sway is just so nice to use.#linux #sway #cachyos

@thatguyoverthere @verita84@poster.place I won't lie: it's very comfortable because it's so similar to i3. I did "borrow" the `swaybar` config as is custom then modified it to work for what I needed it to (and some slight theming tweaks).

Started migrating services off of the RPis and onto the new #Proxmox server. The initial install went fairly smoothly, got the VLANs configured, and then setup the new primary DNS server. That took longer than it should have, but I will say this: the VM is so much more snappy than the Pi. Next up is the secondary DNS server.

Bought a new black computing rectangle (a.k.a. a laptop) yesterday as the current one doesn't have enough umph...also, I might've beat it down a bit too much. Went with a Lenovo Thinkpad P14s Gen 6 AMD laptop that was on sale because I wanted Linux support as a given (definitely been bitten by that before).Went with the Ryzen 9 HX PRO 370 CPU (12c/24t) which has a very strong integrated GPU as well (890M). Told them to install [insert OS that isn't Windows on it because it's cheaper], went with the 96GB of RAM because it was cheap as hell, and left it with the stock 1TB SSD as I'll be replacing it with something much, much larger.Really stoked to put it through its paces. I'm probably going to install CachyOS on it, but we'll see.#laptop #linux #thinkpad

Finished cleaning up the cabling and getting the Beelink properly installed in the minirack. Overall, I miss the Pis because they looked pretty cool, but I'm not gonna complain: this looks pretty good as well. The doggo wasn't quite as impressed.#homelab #minirack #proxmox #cabling

@mmeier I decided to only go 24 threads on the encoder nodes because they're also running other things...I felt like I was being nice.

So, my curiosity got the best of me and I ordered a SuperStation One. Looks pretty awesome and supports all the cores my MiSTer does which is very interesting. Has analog output which was a requirement...not really sure there are any real downsides.https://retroremake.co/pages/superstation%E1%B5%92%E2%81%BF%E1%B5%89#retrogaming #mister #fpga
